Between Q and Kerrang!: your recommendations please

does he like tool?

I can't remember, which is partly why I started this thread.

I think he likes either Tool or System Of A Down, but not the other. I, on the other hand, have absolutely zero interest in either, can't tell them apart, and whatever they are (-proggy metal...?) is definitely (-and wilfully) one of my musical blind-spots. :o:D

what about old school metal?
everybody loves black sabbath!

He's more of a 90's onwards sort of a metal/rock fan. Even so, I suspect even he has all the Sabbath he wants. You're right though, I kind of assume that surely everybody loves them. (-And so.... -already has them?)

(-First four albums only for me, though. ;))

Couple of curveballs. You never know

Shinedown - check out Sound of Madness.

Slipknot - Psychosocial

Deftones - My Own Summer

And for a *real* curveball try Fightstar - yes I know its Charle from Busted, but man its good. Well some of it is ;)

Floods (Deftones x Muse) -
Deathcab - (Deftones x Radiohead x Cannibal Corpse :))

Of course the other thing would be to burn him a CD education of your (or our) own.... :)

I'll check your recommendations out, cheers. :)

Like so many suggestions on here, I suspect Fight Star just ain't gonna fly though, sorry!

That's what I usually do, tbh. :)

I'm not in a particularly 'metal' frame of mind at the mo' though (-as this 'help' thread of mine no doubt evidences... :o), so if I made a comp right now it'd probably just be full of BBC Radiophonic weirdness, melancholy psych, and twenty minute fuzzy drone epics... :hmm::D

Or you could burn the suggestions on here and add a few of your own - at least that way he might find something new that he likes and then checks them out under his own steam... that way you can try and mix Sunn o))), Isis and Mastodon with Sabbath,Led Zep, Monster Magnet, Fightstar,Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Slipknot, and also maybe some lighter stuff such as Shinedown, Secret Machines, Mark Lanegan (Hit The City), Foo Fighters, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (Wail), Gallows etc,Maybe even some old old ACDC, Eagles of Death Metal (Boys Bad News), Audioslave (Cochise), Rage Against The Machine. Dead By Sunrise (Crawl Back In) - Chester Bennington from Linkin Parks side project which is much more old school metal - almost like a heavy version of the Hives (!) -

Failing that get him some of the Desert sessions - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Sessions - which is an evolving band containing members of pretty much everyone above. My favourite is session 9 and 10, which has 'Make It Wi Chu' Whch is essentially Josh Holme and Ween :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volumes_9_&_10 . It also has the original version of 'In My Head' which was on 'Lullabies to Paralyze'

Or

Mondo Generator (Nick Olivieras band - he used to be in QOTSA)
Masters of Reality

Or

Have a look at this - http://www.last.fm/music/Queens+of+the+Stone+Age/+similar

[voiceover:] '-I wanted (-someone with) a mission. -And for my sins, they gave me one... ' :D:cool:

Yep, I've done him ^these^ exact kind of comps several times in the past. I played him stuff like the Mark Lanegan solo albums (-who he really likes), EoDM, and a few of the Desert Sessions years ago. (-That version of In My Head on there will always be the better by far, IMO! ;))

Anyway, today I must buy something. I'm going to get him a Kyuss album.

Cheers again everybody, for all your suggestions. :)
