What would be even cooler is if her music was any good

(I've tried, honest I have)

<shakes head>

actually i've only heard the album with "standing in the way...>" the once, briefly, and nothing else. i love "standing in the way..." loads, and the rest soudned quite good, although i'd have to have a good listen to it before i decide. (i'm happy to admit i only heard of them after the NME "coolest woman" vote thing)

A 'friend' sent me a copy of the latest album. Played it once with an open mind. Hated it. Played it again, giving it another go. Still hated it

I'm no fan - I mean, more power to her and the band etc, but I'm not keen on that sort of bellowing voice at the best of times, and in this context to me it sounds forced. I checked out the earlier albums too - just not my thing.

Yer I suppose she's still being singled out as a fat dyke role model.

But hey who cares she said FU to Topshop

Actually, it's not really her that's annoying, she's just doing her thing. What's annoying is this semi-sycophantic army of press going "Wow, she's so cool 'cos she's a big fat dyke with hairy pits and she's angry! She's a role model, she doesn't care".. of course she fucking cares.

I'm not articulating this well.

Zacktly!

yes she is :) but the editor of diva wrote a column in one of them free rags the other day, talking about beth ditto, and she used that phrase so seemingly beloved by people when describing a non-slim woman that they happen to like - "she looks like how a woman should look" - jesus christ, wimmin can't win, can they?

Yep, that comment stuck in my throat too. Been said a few times specifically about BD, and a number of times in general.

I'm picturing her grabbing skinny girls and force-feeding them, foie-gras style. :D

God I hate reading these band's lists of influences, apparently they like Grauzone, Jacques Lu Cont and Arthur Russell - you'd have thought you could do something interesting with that but you just get boring 'punk disco'

The Klaxons like Cluster and Green Velvet!

jacques le cont is boring anyway.

a lot of what he has inspired is boring

but for the man himself - evidence to the contrary:

madonna - hung up extended dub
missy - lose control remix
the royksop thing
the killers thing
whirpool productions
even fucking starsailor

er, i agree with chrisfilter, in that i don't really care. ffs there's "fat" people everywhere. erm, i did just put fat in quotes tho, so maybe she's really important.

i am negative because i read the comments and the last one said "that is beautiful". No its not you bafoon, its a fat person in show-business.

The day that happens, is the day I die happy  Because I am that f*ing shallow... thick... insecure... vicarious... etc.

just stop it. eating all the time, defining yourself as fat, whatever it is. go to therapy and stop it.

may have sounded a bit, erm, of an idiot there. but what, do you want sympathy? respect? a diet? my not noticing?

nah - don't group "fat" people together! then what the fuck good is a "fat" role model.

nah, its a good thing that "fat" people are in the media spotlight if it reduces eating disorders. but much else is a bit lame.

imho
