Bestival 2008 line-up!

Yeah go careful on buying tickets. This festival more than most seems to be plagued by forgeries.

Cheers for the tip, cautiousness sounds wise
Scarletmist perhaps the way forward on that one ...

At the moment it feels like we've definitely decided not to go, but as September gets nearer and maybe there's a bit more cash, we may be in mind change mode, maybe feeling more keen to squeeze another one in (so to speak :p ) at the end of the season .....

Only a few hundred tickets left now as per the website. This will sell out by the end of the week I reckon, so if anyone is still in two minds you'd better make up your mind sharpish.

Me and Mrs Llama are going.
We went in 2006 and had a good time, though there were a few frustrating bits which I hope they've fixed now.

We'll be heading down on the Thursday morning for a noon Red Funnel ferry.

The cost of two tickets + car-ferry has gone up from £262 to £391 in two years which is a massive increase. The ferry tickets we've bought are flexible so we can change sailing without too much hassle. 2006 is was an extra £40 for the ferry ticket, this year it's £113.

500 tickets left, and only via Wightlink (though you can buy just a festival ticket without a ferry ticket), and a few more acts announced - http://www.bestival.net/html/news/650

I suspect the ferry companies are making a nice killing on the festivals on the IoW.

Only this morning I was listening to an MP3 of Carl Cox's rave set from the 2006 festival

The line-up isn't as good as the past couple of years but there's still enough for me to see thatI don't mind - especially as the atmosphere and weather are just as big a part of why I love going

Yeah you paid a lot more than I have, I think you really get stung for buying the flexible ferry tickets. :(

Do you think that Bestival is some how exempt from the hand of Zeus?

I see its sold out now.

My Mrs wanted to surprise me with a pair of Bestival tickets - yesterday she phoned me at work, a bit upset - being French, she'd accidentally bought Camp Bestival tix instead of Bestival, from the red funnel ferries website.

It seems Camp Bestival is a family friendly, bugaboo fest, rather than the real deal.

Anyway, she emailed the helpdesk to ask for a refund so that she could then buy bestival tix and they kindly swapped them over, no questions asked.

So, there ARE tickets left, it seems. Maybe they are withholding a number for future sales?

I wouldn't recommend trying the wrong ticket thing though. A friend of mine just happened to do the same thing the night before. He got a refund, no problem.

When I told him about the ticket swap he called them up and tried to blag one for himself only to be told that it was impossible to do.

Recommendation

Take a bit of time to check JC and Angelina on one of the small stages when you go. They're a really talented folk-blues bother-sister duo from the Island** she's got a fantastic voice and he's a well talented guitar/mandolin/harmoica virtuoso. High energy stuff too.

Saw them in a pub near Cowes on Saturday, they were totally professional, really full on performers. I was very impressed ...

**OK Angelina went to school with Deb and is one of her best mates so I'm a tad biased :D -- but they really ARE good.

(Can't find their myspace, but there's loads of results on Google)

I'm going! not sure who with yet but I have bought 4 tickets hoping to coerce some mates into it between now and then ;) bit pricey i know but really wanted to go last year and missed out so hope it's worth it plus never been to the IOW... can't wait for Underworld headlining sunday night :)

30,000 freaks under the sea!

Got an email from Bestival today...

30,000 FREAKS UNDER THE SEA!

"Yep – taking a lead from legendary author Jules Verne’s classic tome 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, we can now announce that we are taking it even deeper… 30,000 party people will be deep sea skiving in their best underwater fancy-dress garb at Bestival on the Isle of Wight this September.

Expect scantily-clad mermaids by the dozen, sharks, stingrays, probably the odd shopping trolley and who knows, love might well prove a many tentacled thing for any lucky squid in the area… and surely somebody will resurrect the classic 70s underwater crooner Frankie Prawn joke (please)? The world of costume truly is your lobster at Bestival 2008!

Bestival head-honcho Rob da Bank said today :

"We wracked our collective brains ‘til they turned to custard and eventually came up with '30,000 FREAKS UNDER THE SEA' - essentially another open-ended theme open to abuse and many different angles which we hope you'll follow! This year we'll do a night parade as well as daytime one, so make sure you light up bright - calling all pesky squids, little urchins, deep sea divers and Yellow Submarines!"

Plenty of scope there
