Best use of a song in a film?

Girls by Death In Vegas at the start of Lost in Translation
The End by The Doors in Apocalypse Now
Where is my Mind by the Pixies at the end of Fight Club
All the Oompa Loompa songs in the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Joe Walsh - In the City, at the end of The Warriors.

I think the best use of a song in Apocalypse Now is the Flight of the Valkyries scene.

ah, so that was GSYBE eh? Loved the soundtrack thoughout, assumed it was totally commissioned. Got very excited that films might opt for a a punk band instead of an orchestra in future, but it seems a one off - series7 did it earlier tho with a band called Boys Against Girls*.

GYBE are much more orchestracal than punk thou.........

I thoughtb the lounge version of 'Disturbed's "get down with the sickness" was very well done in the new dawn of the dead.

Most of the Soundtrack for the new Dawn of the Dead is spot on.
That Johnny Cash track at the start is great too. :)

'Jumping Jack Flash' when De Niro enters the bar in 'Mean Streets'.
Bill Murray's rendition of 'More Than This' in Lost In Translation.
The slo-mo 'Head Over Heels' sequence in 'Donnie Darko'.
The Fall's 'Hip Priest' in 'Silence of the Lambs'.

Another vote for The Pixies' Where is My Mind in Fight Club- makes the film I reckon.

Echo and The Bunnymen's Killing Moon in Donnie Darko, because it's such a brilliant song.

Love Will Tear Us Apart in Series 7 The Contenders, despite being played over a ropey PA...

Interestingly as soon as I read Donnie Darko, I was going to nominate Love Will Tear Us Apart in Donnie Darko...

After Dark in From Dusk 'til Dawn. That scene with the snake and the toe sucking. I'm getting all dribbly just thinking about it. In fact most of that soundtrack does it for me.

Sweet Jane covered by the Cowboy Junkies in Natural Born Killers

lordy.......

The Pixies' Where is My Mind in Fight Club is just soo bloody obvious a piece of music to choose. Ditto all the music in Donnie Darko, or any use of techno lite stuff in sci-fi's. They might be great tracks, they might bre great films, but they're dull and obvious pairings that indicate nearly seven seconds went into thinking about the soundtrack - or rather how much extra wonga they could squeeze out of people even if the film flopped.

Anyway.....

Pressure Drop in The Harder They Come,
Man of constant Sorrow in O Brother, Where Art Thou?,
Fight the Power in Do the Right Thing
Little Child Runnin' Wild &Freddies Dead from Superfly (unless they were specially written for the film, but I dont think so)
