Best Sunday Roast in Brixton.

White horse is fairly big, and getting a table is not usually a problem, its just they run out of roasts - other food would still be available though. The veggie roast is something like a stuffed squash with cous cous in it, it was OK, but a bit boring when I had it a couple of months ago. We also once got them to give us roast veggies etc with a pie when they'd run out of meat, but still had roast potatos etc left over.

Far Side used to do a great roast dinner, but I went there maybe 2 months ago and they'd stopped because it was too quiet. Maybe that will restart now its more like cosy roast dinner weather. Anyone been there recently?

Walked past yesterday, big sign saying Roasts are back.

The Florence near Brockwell Park serves the best roast I've had in a pub in ages. Does that count as Brixton? It's not cheap - but it's well worth the money IMO.

Maybe I've been lucky but the few times I've eaten at the Florence the service was not just okay but once or twice, actually excellent. On my birthday they went out of their way to accommodate us all, including extra diners, and everyone's food came in good time and without fuck ups.

I have to say that the last few times I ate at the Florence it was completely completely shit and since it's not cheap felt even worse! I took my mum and she got such terrible food she wouldn't eat it. Won't ever go there again tbh.

From your description the veg roast you had at the White Horse sounds similar to the meal I had there two years ago. When I had it it was so bad I started a thread just to describe it's awfulness :

I can only hope it's improved since then but it doesn't sound too great from what you've said. :(

I don't know about veggie roasts but everything I've eaten at the White Horse has been good.

I'm really glad to hear it :) I'd love someone to come along and say that the veggie roast is great now. I live on Brixton Hill so the White Horse is one of my locals and it would be ace if I could go back there to eat. But, honestly, that meal was so godawful I haven't been back in two and a half years :(

Yes the side bits were OK, roast potatoes and all that, just the actual stuffed squash was a bit disappointing. And it was the end of the day (in their terms, me I like a late start on a Sunday) so perhaps it had sat around a bit.

Far Side roasts about a year ago were great though, parsnips in honey glaze, lovely potatoes, mountains of food... Hopefully its the same set up again now. Will have to go an check!

My report of the Far Side...

Choice of 4, 3 meat ones (beef, chicken and lamb) and one veggie one - veggie sausages this time. Very, very good but pricey - gone up to about £10. Also given our conversation earlier, not sure if it would be able to cater to large groups, at least with them being on the same table.

I took photos of the veggie and lamb one on my phone so can show you later. :)
