Best roots / reggae / dub / dancehall artist

Not usually a poster but kinda my thing. Delroy Wilson's early tunes are good - Have Some Mercy, I'm In a Dancing Mood, I Want Justice, I'm Not A King. Barrington Levy might have been spoiled by constant jungle/dnb samples but has a great voice. Sugar Minott's cool 'Oh Mr DC' 'Rough Ole Life' 'Sufferers Choice'. Tenor Saw's probably my favourite though, especially 'Roll Call' and 'Lots Of Sign'.

Tenor Saw and Top Cat are mighty fine

If I did not know anything about the music and read this thread I would get the impression that Reggae music ceased to exist 25 years ago.. and all there is to listen to are constant re-releases from a few decades ago.

Anyway...

At the moment I really rate Richie Spice

and I Wayne

Or that the people who have already posted on this thread have expressed a preference for artistes from a while back. Nowt wrong with that, it's called personal preference.

But d'n'b and jungle is shite. :hmm:

Good songs. I love the first. People in poverty. It didn't finish 25 years ago, we need it now more than ever.

I have to appreciate that people from such a comparitively small country have such a grasp of lyrics and music.

OK, I really rate Luton Fyah, Turbulence, I have a soft spot for TOK despite the batty boy shit, Anthony B is the best roots / dancehall artist for ages, Mungos Hi Fi are probably the best UK sound system putting out tunes (Iration seem to be concentrating on dubstep now which is no bad thing), the best roots tune of the last decade is By His Deeds by VC and the best dub tune is King In My Empire by Rhythm & Sound ft Cornell Campbell

Iration steppas are doing more Dubstep now then? is there any sound tapes floating around on the net?

Though I think they are the forerunner of Dubstep in a way.. as they where doing weird shit years before the term dub step even came around.

I used to see them loads about 14 years ago....

If you listen to some dubstep - I'm thinking Digital Mystikz and early Skream especially - it's pretty much digidub anyway. Which is why Mark Iration has totally embraced it

Fantan Mojah is the one of best around at the moment i reckon

And Sizzla too makes some great tracks but makes abit of filler too, he makes an album a month or something

Yeah I once bought a bargain Sizzla LP that turned out to be ALL filler, no wonder I thought the guys at the bloody counter were laughing at me!

Saw The Beat in 1981. :o

This isn't like Glastonbury or anything, it's organised by old punks and that - tiny amount of people (well), jefe will explain it better than I can. It isn't the lusty version of a festival if you get what I mean.

I guess damian has to get a mention if not for jamrock and khaki suit

actually it is: Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Bounty Killer & Eek-A-Mouse

Just a few of my favourites.
