What? It's a fact!

The title of the thread is 'Best Rave Band' yet the poll title is 'Best Live Band' I mean FFS  :p

Careful, you're sounding like me! ;)

do the KLF count? their 'live performances' are almost non-existent, surely? and even when they did appear, they were twatting about in ice creams or giving equipment away?

Lab 4? :D they just stood there looking hard playing DATs, and they got really shit after about 2001 :(

I didn't realise it was about live bands. It wasn't clear

Prodigy. Orbital are better, but you really can't call them a live rave PA. Altern8 as runners-up. Special mention goes to Ultra-Sonic for being a shining example of everything that was bad about playing "live" at raves.

In terms of energy, high quality tunes, crossover appeal/success and longevity I don't see how it can't be Prodigy:confused:
Orbital - good live but unless you're really into the music, visually they were a couple of blokes with funky specs twiddling - I reckon Prodigy give more visually as a "band" which is what the post is asking about..

Prodigy turned to shite when their dancers started thinking they had a talent for singing.

Cos the time I saw them (at some festival in about '95, after their early rave-years prime) they were fucking shit. They thought they were rock stars and the show was all about them. The music would stop and start at random, then they would shout a bit, then the music would start up again, until you had almost got back into it and then it'd all grind back to a halt while they shouted some more. They looked like they were enjoying themselves. I wandered off somewhere else.

Leftfield

didnt they cause a venue to collapse or something because of the volume?..cool as fook that. or is it just one of those urban myths.

even though release the pressure is now being used on fucking O2 adverts..they still get my vote

From that list, altern-8.

Scooter is the grandaddy though.

RESPECT TO THE MAN IN THE ICE CREAM VAN!

:D

yep.

I'm faintly confused by the thread but Leftfield gets my vote.

Agree about Prodigy as well. Experience and Jilted Generation era were easily their peak.

As mentioned elsewhere, I'm listening to Leftfield's Homelands set from 2000 and it's fantastic. Bass levels set to 'extra stupid'.

Dunno if I can reasonably vote on this as I ain't seen too many of the big dance people live. Really looking forward to Underworld next week though going by the excited noises being made down the phone at me from Birmingham last night

Inner City please

You saw Inner City??!!

You jammy BASTARD!

yes, sure they would have been Glorious!

i did see Ten City tho, who were stunning and the place went mental mental radio rental when they did 'that's the way love is'.

:)

Prodigy, Leftfield and Eatstatic (should also be on the list) were all great when I saw them live. the prodg get my vote for sheer mentalist energy - shame they coked themsleves into shiteness.

I saw orbital at glasto in 95 and was mightily bored - but everyone else rekoned it was the gig of the centuary - so what do I know?

Has to be Renegade Soundwave....grandaddys of the scene, and their production was so superior it still sounds funky now.

The House Crew are a glaring omission!

So I've gone Prodigy, although only in their Experience days. Never saw them as was too young but had a tape of them playing at Norwich Sound City off Radio 1 and it sounded absolutely mental.

ETA Just found it for download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D7ZLP0RL

Lost the tape years ago, fuck this takes me back.
