I disagree, I think the Banshees made many excellent records. It's also unfair to claim that a band who were around for nearly 20 years to have not been as consistent as Bauhaus, who were only around for 5 years and the Sisters who were effectively only around for 5 years too.
Virgin Prunes - wiki says they formed in 1977 but I think that's a bit early - I thought it was 1978. Although not being goth themselves I think they had quite an influence. Did some very impressive bizarre electronic weirdness as well as the more usual goth type music, had all their back catalogue reissued by Mute records in 2004 on account of aforementioned influentialness.
