Best pop star performance in a film

I hereby mention Garfunkel in that film. (Which i'll now look up the title of)

Here we go:

Bad Timing "I really couldn't accurately describe the contents of this movie. It's about a destructive love affair between a man played by Art Garfunkel and a woman played by Theresa Russel. Russel has attempted to commit suicide. In the hospital they're fighting for her life as Garfunkel is interrogated by a detective (Harvey Keitel) about what really happened. Slowly the real story unfolds and the viewer learns about the darker sides in both characters."

It's a nic roeg film which i didn't realise.

I've never seen it - but it has to go on the poll

He was in Catch 22 too wasn't he? And pretty good as I remember it.

There's a great bit in a movie that I can't quite remember the name of when Tom Waits is being hassled by his wife... he drawls "Doreen, Doreen, the question queen."

I don't remember either and thought I had seen everything Tom Waits was in.

Defiantly a "Tom Waits" line. Lets us know if you find out.

Cheers :)

No mention of Cher ? She was the rare pop star who became a credible actor and she even won the Oscar.

Marian Carey was surprisingly good as the social worker in Precious in a role originally meant for Helen Mirren.

Queen Latifah has mostly been cast in crappy comedies, but she was fantastic in the recent HBO Bessie Smith biopic.

Frank Sinatra in The Man With The Golden Arm

Bjork in Dancer in the Dark

Justin Timberlake has done some decent performances (Alpha Dog, Social Network)

Extending to TV and Jerome Flynn would stand a good shout for Game of Thrones and Ripper Street

Jerome Flynn is an actor who did a couple of cash in albums, not a pop star who did some acting...

He was definitely a pop star though (managed by Simon Cowell, appearances on TOTP, screaming girl fans, mostly covers) the OP did not specify which came first ;)

Doris Day in The Man Who Knew too Much
Grace Jones in Vamp (an art performance piece plonked into a teen sex comedy)
Jane Birkin in Evil Under the Sun

Only a small role, but as a fan I'll mention Dean Wareham in Frances Ha

That's a blast from the past - the Stardust film from '74.
I have an idea Ringo was in it too wasn't he? No, correct that, I think he was in That'll be the Day which was the first film about the same David Essex character.

Eminem in 8 Mile (ok, not MUCH acting required)
Queen Latifah was good in Set It Off
Haven't yet seen Andre 3000 play Hendrix in All Is By My Side but it seems like a good match

it would be best not to talk about 50 Cent in anything, I think...
