Possibly not the best, but definitely one of the best for me was Jari Litmanen for Finland against Wales about 10 years ago, when they beat us 3-1 I think. He controlled the match from start to finish. He recently came back to haunt Wales and did it all over again although he's not far from 40!!! Shame he never had a chance to show how good he was at the World Cup really.
Another player who did something similar against Wales at a games I saw was Matthias Sammer for Germany. Bossing the midfield doesn't quite do it justice!!
Indeed that's the problem from then on including his time in Greece he faded badly and people tend to remember that. But you don't become World Player of the Year for being shit. At Barca he was ridiculously good and watching him live with pace and movement he was sublime.
Watch in particular from approx 35 seconds in for the best hat-trick i've ever seen - last game of the season we had toi beat Valencia to get into the Champions League and he scores his 21st, 22nd and 23rd goals of the season Prob the best match i've ever seen live too.
Seen Moore, Best and Marsh play for Fulham when they were past their best. Cantona was special as is Giggs and Beckham. But if you are going to put my feet to the fire and force an answer out me I would have to go for..
I've seen a lot, so it's hard to say - Best, Charlton, Moore, Beckenbauer, Muller, Netzer, Cryuff, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo (both of em), Ronaldinho etc.
Zidane and Cryuff were the two I was most excited about seeing, although Ronaldinho probably gave the best individual performance I've seen when Barca beat Real at the Bernabeau 3-0 a few years ago.
