Best place to eat currently in Brixton

Can't see any mention of Upstairs on this thread. Leagues ahead of anywhere else I've eaten in Brixton.

Re Upstairs I haven't been for prob a couple of years but back then it was great. Some reviewers (TimeOut??) say it's gone a bit downhill tho. Anyone been there lately? Still enjoying Honest Foods every time we go.

I really like Upstairs but does the veg option always have to be risotto! It makes the other half not want to go there as he always knows what he's going to have to order.

I went to upstairs a month or so ago and the food was as good as usual.

Mr Shakes is a lactose intolerant veggie so I always let them know when I'm booking and they make him a special meal. This time the message somehow hadn't got through to the chef but they managed to whip up 3 very nice courses for him. No risotto in sight that evening.

Had a a really nice lunch at Cornucopia in Brixton Village/Granville Arcade today. £4.50 for a very large pork and fennel meatball on flatbread with slow-roasted tomatoes. On Saturday, he does a £10 lunch which looks amazing. Open Thursday evenings only, until 10pm and BYO.

The Italian cafe (Bellantoni's) in BV also very good.

Not quite brixton but I really like the lido cafe for food at the moment. The evening menu's good and on wednesdays they do burger and a beer for £7 - about 5 different types of burgers including 2 veggie options I think and meantime beer.

It was £12 on a Saturday last time I went, still excellent value though.

We had a meal in Brazas last night.

I had peri peri chicken and the boy had the herby fish.

It was all tasty and delicious although the chicken tasted a bit like Encona Hot Pepper Sauce.

We were served by the lady who was very friendly, service was prompt and there was a lovely atmosphere... it was nice to see families having dinner together tooo :)

Brazas got a mention in Observer Food Monthly today - in an article about Nando's by local resident Miranda Sawyer.

Having complained recently of too many cheesecakes in the selection at Brazas, I can say that the choice was excellent today and not a cheesecake in sight. I've got something with berries and amaretto for later.

I was also at Mango Landing where after finding the food there really good for a while, they seem to have priced themselves out of the Brixton market. Their BBQ is very expensive and it was empty today. The food is also not as tasty as it was.

For simple, home cooked food, Honest Foods is a great little restaurant (it's currently being refurbed).

We had the veggie cooked breakfast at the Ritzy yesterday and it was pretty good, but a little cold and not quite as nice as H Foods'.

Qummie made me go and eat cake at Braza's. I can confirm that their fruit meringue gateaux is splendiferous.

Hello
Does anyone have the phone number of Cornucopia in Brixton market so I can book a table. Thank you!

07404 566 663
(Be sure to ask for one indoors! One of the people I was eating with the other day turned blue. Despite being from Edinburgh.)
