Best piece of recent US televisual programming

Maybe I should just check Buffy out, but every time I ever caught it on the telly it just struck me as a silly teen soap, like a supernatural Dawson's Creek

It's just not your bag mate.

Hmm, I've got two friends saying that it's the best thing since sliced bread and now you're telling me not to bother.
B** loves it but him and A***** like all sorts of shit - they even liked Serenity FFS!

You may be right - I'm indifferent to Star Trak and Dr Who too, though I tend to get into these things if forced to watch them AND I've just received the first few eps of BSG season 1 from lovefilm

You need to watch the BSG mini-series before season one!

Only recommended if you've seen the mini-series first which was the pilot. If not you won't have a clue what's going on.

*edit: Belushi beat me to it*

Oh shit, really?
I saw an episode on Sky Three (or some Freeview channel), about a prison riot, and was gripped - wasn't very scifi though

Best Sci-Fi series ever imho - you can get the DVD of the mini series for about a fiver lots of places.

BSG tells a continuous story and the 3 hour pilot sets up the plot and characters. I found it difficult to get into for the first 45 minutes, but then it really kicks off. Like Buffy BSG uses sci-fi for allegory (in this case 9/11 and the Iraq war) and it explores ideas about identity not dissimilar to what Philip K. Dick does.

Arse, it'll take ages to get the pilot on lovefilm now and I'll have to hang on to the other disc in the meantime:mad:

When I got the pilot from Lovefilm it arrived pretty fast. It's four years old now, so there isn't a huge demand for it. :)
