Best opening Paragraph... ever?

The opening paragraph of Kafka' "Metamorphosis" is pretty heavy duty.

"When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from troubled dreams, he found himself changed into a monstrous cockroach in his bed...."

Naturally he begins to worry in the extreme as he fears this metamorphosis may make him late for work.

Great book. Immediately one is grabbed with a feeling of empathy for the lead character. The immense difficulty he experiences as he attempts to roll himself out of bed, his six legs waving uselessly in the air, his mandables incapable of human speech - don't you just hate it when that happens.
