best 'new' bands you've heard

I haven't been looking at much new stuff of late, instead, I have been acquainting myself with some (unforgivable?) holes in my music collection and listening history.

This week I downloaded (and in many cases heard for the first time in their entirety....or even at all !)

I have a veritable cornucopia of new stuff to listen too, most of which is new to me and most of which is fucking brilliant ( so far....)

They seem like an old band to me as I saw them a few times a couple of years ago, but HOCKEY NIGHT are the fucken bomb. Currently recording their debut album for DFA. They're stoners and like to take things slowly but when you can come up with a psychedelic scramble of the Allmans and Thin Lizzy it's worth the wait. Unfortunately the tracks on their myspace are 2-3 years old and still in the Pavement-ish curve.

And, this band from Calgary called THE DUDES are the best new thing I've heard all year.

I don't know whether this perception of you is accurate or not, but you are doing a good job convincing people of it.
