Best Neil Young Song?

Jeez it's impossible to choose

Cortez the Killer - for the chills
Cinnamon Girl - for the pop
and then there's a whole clutch of sad wistful ones.

he's just the best eva.

'L.A.' - from his drug crack-up period - a great tune off a much-neglected album.

I don't think 'Time Fades Away's even available on CD.

impossible to choose, changes all the time. Probably something off Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere though - Cowgirl In The Sand mebbes

Hey dub - given your apparent affection for mr young, can i ask how u feel about the great man's affection for one of your (apparently) more disliked bands - pearl jam? and eddie vedder in particular - the two are best mates... just interested..

i like both of them as people and musicians myself - they share somethin...

Genius.

I'm currently chilling to After the Gold Rush inspired by this thread.

May have to retract my initial vote for Old Man and go with Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

To many to choose from. Total music magician.

far too hard.... old man, cortex the killer, down by the river and needle and the damage done.... all for diferent reasons, all bloody amazing. well done that man!

I like the one about black and blue and my my, no idea what it's called and the resident NY fan has gone to bed :)

AAh, that's me fucked for the weekend, just realised i need to rerip my Neil Young to this new Computer.

I can't even decide which version of like a hurricane i like best.

Needle and the damage done
heart of gold,
everyone knows this is nowhere (mainly because it got me through months of a shite job)
man needs a maid
but my tippist toppist neil young track is 'love in mind' from the 1971 bbc sessions

Is that the Live At Massey Hall one?

Or <hopefuly> an album I've never heard of?

On the live CSNY album, there's a four track medley Neil does on his own, with cinnemon girl, down by the river and some others I can't remember. May have to dig that out later,

Only Love Can Break Your Heart & the all of After the Goldrush tracks. Life (1987) is a good album a comments on American foreign policy of the 1980's especially Mideast Vacation & long walk home.

I went lookin' for Khaddafi
Aboard Air Force One
But I never did find him
And the C.I.A. said Son,
You'll never be a hero
Your flyin' days are done
It's time for you to go home now
Stop sniffin' that smokin' gun.

no its recorded on February 23, 1971, a month after the massy hall gig.... its essentially neil young unplugged, and bitching about the bbc's coffee...
