Best name of a band.

I thought the promoter was taking the piss when he said we were setting up a gig for Selfish Cunt. Turned out they exist!

Gets my vote

Pavement (especially because they were American)

Very Anglophile Americans though, with a rather amusing allegiance to Luton Town FC. At the time everyone lumped them in with 'grunge', but really the more canny observers pointed out a much greater similarity, at least in their early album, to the Fall...

Just remembered one of my favourites: Arcade Fire. The band themselves I think are average. But what a stunning name. Really evocative.

My mate hates them just because of the name. His cousin died in a fire in an arcade in Canada  :(

See, to me though, an actual fire in an arcade isn't what I think of...

I think of somewhere mysterious... Arkadia... with half-ruined ancient buildings lining the streets, and flames licking up from the pavements...

Different Dr_Gonzo here BTW. Yeah I know all about them being anglophiles, I love the weird referances to england in some of their songs and I never really got the grunge thing, Malkmus openly says The Fall were one of the biggest influences on him which you can really hear in slanted & enchanted.

It was just lazy journalism. A load of good american bands came along so the press lumped them all together. If Pavement and Alice in Chains had anything in common musically (other than being a bunch of white guys playing music on guitars, drums and bass) then I'm the Dalai Lama.

Kind of freaky having two different Dr Gonzos on the same thread...

Innit

Dr_Gonzo - I'm sure if you PMed a mod nicely they'd let you change your name. Please tell them it's making my head hurt :D
