Yeah I know all about them being anglophiles, I love the weird referances to england in some of their songs and I never really got the grunge thing, Malkmus openly says The Fall were one of the biggest influences on him which you can really hear in slanted & enchanted.

It was just lazy journalism. A load of good american bands came along so the press lumped them all together. If Pavement and Alice in Chains had anything in common musically (other than being a bunch of white guys playing music on guitars, drums and bass) then I'm the Dalai Lama.
