Best movie martial arts fight

in addition to my earlier choice of Sanjuro, there is also .

Red Beard is a very dull, very worthy and moving tale about a young doctor learning about himself and life in general from a radical older doctor (Mifune), it is very slow paced. Except for the fight in which Mifune breaks a bone in every one of his opponents.

:D

That's a new one on me, although I have to say his ju-jitsu is pretty clumsy compared to his ken-jutsu, which is reasonably slick for the most part.

I must admit, I didnt know it existed until (in an attempt to complete the set of BFi Kurosawa dvds) I bought it, watched it and was amazed to find it in the middle of a film that it had no right to be in at all.

I was just googling to see if Sanshiro Sugata was still available online, but alas it's not. There used to be a horribly edited version that made no sense on a Dutch site, but it's gone now. There are a couple of fight scenes in that which I find fascinating, because they show pre-war Judo in all its violent glory. As you may know the movie is biographical and concerns Saigo, one of the original Kodokan guys.

There are bits of it (at least, I assume they are from it - I've never seen the full thing):

Yeah, but they aren't the good bits.

Incidentally, the article I linked is rather hyped and misleading. Saigo's signature technique Yama Arashi is still part of the syllabus of traditional Judo schools, contrary to the article's claim that it's been 'forgotten' and Saigo probably didn't learn any 'mysterious martial arts secrets' from family sources.

He was evidently a hard little bugger though.

ETA better article about Saigo.

Tony Jaa again - The Protector.

The Protector?? Is called Warrior King here in the UK and I really rate that scene as a brilliant bit of choreography and cinematography, it doesn't cut from the single camera's view point all the way from the ground floor to when he flings the bloke through the doors.

Although the bit soon after where the director obviously wanted to have a pop at Tarrantino's Crazy 88s is absolutely mental. Can still hear the repetitive crack and crunch of bone...

fuckin' hell. just finished watching 'Flash Point' and thought the final scene was awesome. Donnie Yen must be one of the most evolving martial arts film star out there. there's a bit of muay thai, BJJ, catch-wrestling, wushu and JKD!!! WTF!!:cool:

this fight is even better than the sammo encounter from SPL.

check it out

In terms of high-octane, take your breath away, pin you to the back of your seat speed - the fight in Morocco (including the entire chase) in the Bourne Ultimatum.
