Cheesy - please don't make yourself look more uninformed/plain deaf/daft than usual.

In terms of technical difficulty and flow Rakim's light years ahead. And bear in mind that this is over 10 years before .

Rakim's one of the originators, the creators - after 'Paid In Full' the world of MCing changed, with many if not most modern rappers paying respect to Rakim as an originator to this day. Dynamite, on the other hand, is a routine club mc, with far less lyrical sophisitication and a far simpler flow.

And I say that as someone who likes MC Dynamite, seen him plenty of times, had some of my best club experience with Size and the Bristol Crew. He's one of the best DnB MCs, but Rakim's in a different league

im listening tarrannau - as MC Dynamite is my top man - post me a link of someone better!!!

im listening tarrannau - post me a link!!!

Someone's already posted you a link.

On one hand you've got Dynamite, following a simple rhyme pattern on 'Railing' - basic emphasis on the end of each line, a little bit of a rise here, simple rhyming lyrics (something about a DJ saying that you've had enough iirc). It's proficient and likeable enough, but it's piss easy tecnically.

And then you've Rakim on Paid In Full. Complex changing patterns, glacially cool flow - the kind of thing that had never been heard before in rap, not least the internal rhyme schemes he pioneered in the medium, or the much more complex lyrics.

Here's an example from Eric B for President(1986):

I came in the door / I said it before I never let the mic magnetize me no more But it's biting me, fighting me, inviting me to rhyme I can't hold it back / I'm looking for the line Taking off my coat, clearing my throat The rhyme will be kickin' until I hit my last note My mind arranged to find all kinds of ideas Self-esteem makes it seem that the thought took years to build But still say a rhyme after the next one Prepared, never scared / I'll just bless one . . . .

Have a go and see if you can make that flow easily, and then think how easy he makes it sound...

im racing off to listen to rachim now, but please understand that the drum and bass sound tends to bounce better for my ears. i'll give him a chance anyways. Im glad you apprecite the orator of MC Dynamite though. I thought Numbers was having a laugh, honestly.

have listened to it.

i like him but i think the suspense my mind requires needs an MC that is an exemplar of that.

the 'suspense' factor is all that is necessary for an MC IMO. Its endemic and the urgency should be preacher style in its intensity and kneeling/ glaring/ bright green glaring/ skyfold blue/ terrifyingly close to the great poets in its delivery.

i am a synthesate listener. i dont know how to explain.... i see fractals on top of the sounds (physical hallucinations like globular 'balls' of colour or a 'stream' like a goldfish swimming around/a wave of chiffon in the breeze) when i hear certain sounds so speed/ intonation/ and bouncyness will determine a better fractal than something consistent.

you're simply having a bubble with this one cheesy. rakim was very very very good at what he did. it wasn't by accident.

hes good, but not suspenseful IMO. i need that to really appreciate. The suspense factor is central to every fabric for me. His delivery seems to direct, and i do understand that its immediate for most but it doesnt reach me and is not from the orchards that the best sounds are from, where am MC doesnt usually come from you see.

as good as your man might be to you my lovely, you have to begin to admit that the man called rakim did something superb and superior and significant in a way that hit far more rhythm sticks eh, get me? :)

Your poll as 2 that I would list, Nas and Rakim...but Jay-Z I would leave alone. When he first hit the radar in 99 he was hot. He was still in the PJS and doing that fast rhyming so opular now with that Midwestern rapper Twister. If you can get Mixed CDs over there, even if you have to order off a site, gewt the Mr. Cee Pt I and II Jay-Z CDs, they have ALL that old stuff you will never hear any other way.

I would also urge people to cop the 12 50 Cent Bootlegs/Mixed CDs, 11 Mixed and 1 commericial Bootleg, his Columbia LP from 99 never relased, "Get Rich or Die Tryin." Although, to me, he sees to lose alot of the egd over the past couple of years in those days he was real hungry, straight raw.

For those off your poll, I would make alitle list...why not?

I) Red Cafe. RC is another cat who has been grindin for so long and the fact that he has the tanacity to grind for more than a decade (I been watching him on my trips to NYC) shos his dedication. Dedication though, will not sell units. This kid can rap like crazy. I have many dozens of his freestyles spanning the length of his career. I wish I knew how to upload from CDs and send files, or even post a way to hear them, people would be amazed.

He has a brand new album coming out and Fat Joe and a few other stellar rappers are appearing so I believe he will finally blowup as he should.

II) Billy Bathside. Sadly, Bathside was just about to blowup when I left for Israel in the summer of 2006. I come back here more than a year later and he is nowhere to be seen. Great tragedy.

III) Joe Buddens. This cat from Jersey City, a bit older cause of prison time, is also mad popular in the streets back in NYC. He is on a deal now, after grinding for about 4 years, putting out the obligatory mixed tapes and CDs,etc.

IV) Drag-On. Drag-On has had a deal for along time. He is still with Ruff Ryder I believe. I rarely like anything from that Yonker's label, they use only one producer, Swizz Beats and his sound is cookie cutter to a tee. Same beat, all artists, end of story.,. With Drag though, he puts his own input into his records and lucky for the world of HipHop, he has alot to offer.

V) One of the world's best rappers, very suprised he was not listed on the poll, Kool-G-Rap by himself or with DJ Polo. The man is bananas.."Snitches get stiches, end up in body bags in ditches, my nose twiches, as I sell rock, cooked up coke out my sock, grab my Glock, deal with dem bitches..." PURE POETRY. "as the blind man plays the sax.

I meant to limit myself to 5, but have to add, one of the greatest of all times, BIG PUN. Pun could take it anywhere he wanted and NOONE could touch him. Too bad he died so young.

In terms of technique and delivery, I think Big L was one of the best. Also, he had some very witty and inventive lyrics.

Fully in agreement with the nod to MC Dynamite - Railing is a brilliant track and he has amazing stage presence.

I really think this post is nonsense.

:p:D

Docus: Hats off, Big-L was one of the best no doubt. I have the mix take they put out right after he got shot, with all his freestyles but all in all, he was not that prolific. Another good one was the show he did in Amsterdam with Biggie...Biggie also should have been on that poll!

Also, if you dig Big-L you have to get a bootleg copy of the "Children of the Corn." COC was Big-L's first group, him and Muirda Mase who later became Mase on BadBoy. On BadBoy he got real corny but before all that he had skills.

Also, 2 more, I could go on all day:

Common , formerly Common Sense out of Chicago who is big now in the States and Cormega who has never got his due. He is out of Queensbridge PJs in Queens, one of the epicenters of HipHop.

I've been listening to the Chronic loads, I think Dre is ace, and underrated, pretty technical with a good buffalo stance.
I've discovered he has a team of three people writing his rhymes for him, that must be pretty unusual.
