Best MC of all time!(nominations)

Look Stav, whilst I love the character of the Wu's voices, I don't think anyone who's ever seen them live is going to think of them as the best MCs of all time. Production wise they're hugely influential, but their struggles to perform consistently live mitigate against any view of them as top quality natural performers

One of their gigs in 2004ish was positively cringe inducing (Hammersmith iirc). Ludicrously out of time for most of the gig, reduced to lame call and responses and lady-bothering for pretty much the whole 2nd half of the show. Fairplay to the production of the albums, but there most been a lot of post-prod tinkering and herding cat activity to get them sounding that way. Extra props to RZA and GZA, but energy and character only gets them so far.

I read an interview with the 36 C engineer. Sounded like a nightmare, the clan giving out loads of Agro, RZA, who at the time couldn't engineer, saying stuff like "Make it more macking!" and all of them behaving like a bunch of cunts, all of the apart from Dirty.

I love 36 Chambers too, with Liquid Swords up there with my fave albums of all time. But the character of the voices and razor sharp production can only make up for so much - the technical flaws, shambolic timing and lack of consistent flow became all too apparent live. And that's often with forgiving stream of consciousness lyrics and heavily layered backgrounds too.

Some great recorded work, but best MCs of all time? Not a fucking chance.

meth and raekwon might make my top 20 or so but thier are far better mc's around then the wu-tang clan.

By far the best collective but most of thier solo work is patchy. Personally i cant listen to any rza or odb album and ghostface normally annoys me.

Someone was mentioning canibus eralier as an underrate mc. For me the best of the completely underrated mc's is royce da 5"9. He must be aboout the most complete mc to never do anything. Quality flow, quality lyrics decent in the battle. I reall wish someone would sign him properly.

At the Method Man and Redman show a few weeks back, Redman was levels above Method Man flow-wise. Redman can deliver some fucking good rhyme schemes, the fact that he's a bit wacky detracts from how good he is I think.

Unfortunately for Guru, this isn't about who has the coolest sounding voice, it's about rhymes, technique and flow. I like a good Method Man and Redman track as much as the next man, but Redman is the better MC. Man.

I tend to really like MCs with very distinctive voices and a line in the comical, so is Snoop definitely up there, along with Method Man, who's my favourite Wu, and Ludacris. That's LA, New York and the Dirty South covered in 3 rappers.

Seven years on, I'd say Luda is still my favourite overall.
