best live band?

I've seen Thunder. :(

I went to see Thunder many years ago when they played in the little town my mum and dad stay in. They played during one of the increasingly rare cold snaps there and it was chaos - the tour bus slid sideways past the opening to the hall and got itself stuck halfway across the main road, the road guys were trying to carry equipment into the hall on a light slipper of black ice. Chaos, really.

The band played like they were at, I dunno, Madison Square Garden or something to a crowd of 100 cold people. Much respect to them for that, and even more so when they offered to play requests for cans of beer. Their version of Black Dog was, frankly, awesome.

In the last few years the bands that have really stood out for me as great live acts, and not cool or hip, are:

The Rollings Stones
The Neville Staples Band
Ian McLagan and the Bump Band
The Johnsons (not anthony's lot!)
Grinderman
Alabama 3 (still able to play a great set, entertaining, funny and gets an audience bouncing)

Live music is being ruined by 'hip' people hanging out and talking all the way through the gig, there cos it's 'cool' to be at 'the' gig.

I aim to beat them up as much as possible!!!

I saw Traffic at Woodstck II, and they tore it up. I think they released a DVD of that tour (The Last Great Traffic Jam). I have the Rage Against the Machine Battle of Mexico City DVD, and that must have been one awesome show to experience.
