Best Headphones < £50

Don't want to derail, but I was thinking about getting a half decent set for my ipod - any reccomendations? Say £40-50
Do you want big fuckers, in-ear thingies of trendy DJ style silver things?

<edit to add: Sennheiser PX100's are pretty good>

I don't want big fuckers. In general I prefer over-ear ones than in-ear ones (sorry for lack of technical nous) but would go with the latter if someone could give me a reason why I should... ta folks

-don't!
(...in-ear ones damage your hearing more than the over-ear ones do,
because the sound gets "closer" to the ear when you put them into the ear, if you get me (sorry for phrasing it so badly)

Well, I like in-ear headphones because I'd feel like a right Charly walking dowen the streets with headphones on my bonce and in-ear jobbies are a lot more discrete. I don't like however, the weird ones that like the MDR-EX71SL Sony Fontopia In-Ear Headphones which form a near surgical seal with your lugoles. They're great for plane/train journeys, mind.

The Sennheiser PX100 headphones are pretty damn good and quite cheap too. They have a neat fold away design.

But the Grados would whip their arse when it comes to the best quality sound!

Maya, That's all fair enough... I'm deaf in one ear anyway (listen to my ipod tracks ripped into mono) so looking after my lugs is a priority...

Ooh, I like the look of those Px100s...

Not necessarily... try and use things like the Sennheiser PX-100s (of which I have a pair, and they are great for the right situation) on a bus and so much external noise gets in you'll end up having to whack the volume up to nosebleed levels to hear anything at all - which in turn will mean that the other people on the bus will want to throttle you.

As it happens I spoke to an ENT surgeon last week about this verry subject and he said it made little difference and he used in-ear headphones with his ipod - tbh it's also an aesthetic thing with me

The Sennheiser PX100s are VERY nice (they even have a carry case  ), the only thing that has put me off buying them is that i'm a fan of in-ear headphones combined with the fact that they wouldn't be put to good use considering i still use a walkman (and will do until i finally give in to todays advances in technology  ).

Very nice pair of 'phones though.

My pair lasted about five songs before someone half inched them at an Offline!

Still got the carry case though. Take that headphone thief!

I stood on my £25 Panasonic headphones yesterday, snapping them. :(

*subscribes to thread*

I'm willing to spend £50 on headphones... are they any that are indestructible?

I suppose the innovative folding design makes them a bit easier to stash too :(

Shit like that just isn't funny, there are some selfish fuckers about for sure. :(

Glad to see the PX100s getting respect...after I recommended them all the way back in post 10 *exit smug self-righteous bastard mode*

Anyway, I've never experienced much problem with external noise when listening to minidiscs through mine...the only time I had problems was while using them to record, the track was bleeding out through the headphones and being picked up by the mike, so I ended up having to wrap a gigantic scarf round my head to seal them.

I know that feeling, I had 2 pairs of Sony V700 go missing, in the end I've given up buying expensive headphones to use at gigs.

These 60s are ace. £70 at a hifi shop on tottenham court road, which isn't too bad since i got to try them on first. Was thinking about going for the 80s but they were out of stock so...

Even on my ipod shuffle i heard so much more than i did with any other headphones, and bits that i miss on my speakers.

I'm in the market for two types:

1. Some to wear in the gym (need to stay on, have long cord and be very robust and sweat resistant - type of music: pumping dance etc)

2. Some headphones for my PC: I have 6.1 sound - is it worth getting some of those fancy headphones that use surround and 5.1/6.1 sound? Used for gaming, whole range of music plus TV/radio etc.

I don't really want to spend very much, but am annoyed with shit headphones that have broken or fallen apart quickly, so am willing to spend enough to avoid this.

Sorry if these questions have already been answered on the thread - I need to read it again when I have a bit more time.

1. I'd go for a decent pair of in-ear Sony headphones
2. Predictably, I'd say that the Grados would be ideal.

It's hard to keep a good thread down, and since i have no ability to think or research for myself i thought i'd just revive this.

My sony headphones are dying, i need new ones for wandering around with, either in ear or street style ones would be optimum. Budget is to be around £20 but if there is good reason i can go as high as £50.

need some new headphones. Don't want to spend more than £50 because I always lose them or they get fucking stolen, so I need to balance quality with not throwing away money.

I usually go straight for Sennheiser but wanted to check a) if there's a particular model or b) if there's any good competition at these prices?

I prefer them pretty compact - partly because (durr!) they're smaller, and partly because they'll probably double up for use with my mp3 player and i don't want to look a complete tit on the bus..

the Numark PHX Headphones look quite interesting (and I like the lead / connection options)

The cheapo Sony's I've been using from Argos (around £12 I think) do the job just fine and I won't wail uncontrollably when they inevitably get nicked.

I like the Behringer ones, personally, for around £30.

Robust build and resilient enough to cope with dogy crackling faders and the like.
