best harmonies you ever heard

almost everything by H.P. Lovecraft.

(the band, not the author of eldritch tales, tho' apparently when him and his maiden aunts a'wailed, the earth a'shuddered...)

the beachboys obviously.

oh and i like the harmony placing in this tune
Billy Talent - River Below

im a big sucker for low harmonies
like in this tune..
Longpigs - Blue Skies

and in this chorus.
Norah Jones - Sunrise

ill stop now.
:hmm:

Another great harmony is 'A Message to you Rudy' by the specials again

for some reason my voice always ends up singing the harmony bit, whether or not I am singing with someone. The harmonies on that tune are awesome.
The harmonies on the original are much better. Much as I love the Specials, poor old Terry Hall was a bit of a wild card in the in-tune stakes. :D

Obviously Beachboys. But also Teenage Fanclub.

Freakwater, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Low, The Louvin Brothers

Country, basically.

Apart from the Congos and the The Chantells

who aren't

welch & rawlings are fucking great. utterly spellbinding in fact...

So well done that sometimes you barely realise he's harmonising. He's so close to her, but just out, so it just swells.

I must admit to shedding a tear when I saw them live. And Freakwater. Harmonies get me

saw 'em live a few years ago, with the old crow medicine show supporting - ocms were massively raucous, and had everyone dancing & whooping... then in the welch/rawlings bit, you could've heard a pin drop... it was not unlike a religious experience. :)

I saw that tour.

She gets so much shit for being a fake or something (cos she's not actually a hillbilly) but she's just astonising. Elvis Presley Blues is just... other

One of the best harmonies ever is Simon & Garfunkels classic 'The Sound of Silence'

To me, thats the daddy of good harmonies.

jesus

wish I coulda seen that

for me, it don't get much better than the carter family

from an episode of Frasier

I'd love to be in a choir/close harmony vocal group singing this kind of stuff :)

Flattened fifth in the final chord of course, not sure if it's vocalised but I think it is - try singing that!
