i think he's a great guitarist. punk or not. the part to walking on the moon is so simple and yet so brilliant and atmospheric. great song all round.
Walking on the moon is a cod reggae atrocity.

I was going to, but I kept stumbling over the fact that very little of his (admittedly excellent) guitar work (to my knowledge) is very punky.

Well, I never knew much about The Models, so I purely based it on Rema Rema
Which was pretty punky for me as a kid in 79/80 :)

Although not strictly what the thread is about.
Fuck, it's hard to post this link!

Edited to add again, this just fucking blew me away as a kid:cool:

And it still sounds great LOUD!

It's funny, seeing The Saints, and remembering the late '70s and just not getting them.

Somebody at school had Rush & The Saints badges on their denim jacket in '78 so I never listened to either. Yet now I know of some Rush stuff, but The Saints are a complete mystery.

punk was never about BAD musicianship.

it was about not privileging technique. Playing punk doesn't mean you have to be shit

A rare occurence of agreeing with Dub.

Gregg Ginn
Mick Jones
Johnny Ramone
Bob Mould
Joe Strummer
Chris Haskett

and someone from Conflict...one of the many who have been through the revolving door,,,,can't remember his name...will check...

The Vibrators guitarist, whoever he might be, played a mean geetar I seem to recall. :D
Which one (there have been a few ;) )?

Early guitarists (first two albums) were John Ellis and Knox, IIRC.

I remember it well. :(

I suppose that I wouldn't have thought so badly of them if they hadn't sounded so relentlessly "pub-rock" as well as looking like nonces who had a car crash at a jumble sale. I used to think "doesn't the bassist know any non-12 bar blues-based basslines?". :D

I can't believe no-one's mentioned Pig Champion (RIP). If you're looking for a bridge between metal and punk, then Poison Idea's probably a good place to start.

I was gonna suggest Poison Idea, I've been listening to Feel the Darkness loads lately.

Rich Kids on LSD and Strung Out are other bands that come to mind.

you don't know what you've got til its gone....:(

where are at ya big man?

punk fucking rock eh?

mick jones :)

Ahh, the music forum is soooooo much more chilled now the 'big man' has left, innit? Infinitely so...

Anyway, i agree mick jones as far as a composer for the g - however, i stand by prev choice of billie joe armstrong for pure technique. from all the players ive seen live hes unrivalled. Technically.
