It's a great film . I bet the boy would like it !

oh, allright then, I'll stick on my rental list. Happy now? ;)

I'll report back once we've seen it.

No Planet of the Apes?

Sexiest ape ever.

and you said humans were evolved from monkeys when they are in fact evolved from apes . The clear lack of understanding of the origin of the species makes your opinion invalid I'm afraid :(

Of course but the poll does say monkeys and apes, which should make 2001 valid...

Where's the masterpieces of simian cinema, Planet of the Apes! the only other good primate based film is tango and cash.

CONGO has to be one of my favourite films ever - each viewing (and I have seen it far to many times to be healthy) brings forth new subtle nuances, incredible flaws and stupid incredulities.

My favourite bit is the one where it is explained in a gun battle that they will come to no harm as nobody wants to be seen being mean to a monkey in an american movie.....

otherwise, there's also the superbly bizarre 'Max mon amour'

I voted 12 monkeys, but it's true I didn't like it for the monkey action (there isn't any is there?)

So on second thoughts Planet of the Apes cos I really enjoyed that as a kid.

Oh and <boring pedant>neanderthals / humans are different branches off a common ancestor, neither is descended from the other. Apes n monkeys are other branches.</boring pedant>

More to the point, how the fuck did you miss out PLanet of the Apes, which is better than a fair few in the list, and also features the word 'apes' in its title?

Sgotta be Every Which Way But Loose - it led to me beong given a cruel nickname at school, but made me learn to embrace my difference ;)

American Pie had a monkey in it because the directors seriously thought it would affect their box office. I don't know why I know that.

This one - i think the pollster's not from the 80's generation.

I'm from the 80's . Which is why you have Dunston Checks In and the Cannonball Run in there

And planet of the apes is mediocre at best and if we're talking about any of the sequaels or the Tim Burton remake then it's plainly crap . The TV show of it was good though !

The obvious glaring omission is Planet of the Apes (original)

If I put only good films in how would we laugh at the idiots who vote for the crap ones ( like Reno who voted for the modern King Kong  )

It's an intelligent and memorable film with one of the finest surprise endings in cinema.

It's ok . I like it and all but memorable and intelligent isn't always great , which is why I like the simple mindedness of Cannonball Run 2 and Dunston Checks In . Anyway there weren't actually any apes in Planet of the Apes which kind of defeats the object of the thread because it's films which feature monkeys or apes not humans dressed as monkeys or apes !

another vote for dunston. rupert everett is the bomb as the nasty english lord.

other than that I would have to say Congo. that is an absolutely marvellous piece of cinema.

talking monkeys win every time.

One of George A. Romero's lesser known horror films is the underrated Monkey Shines about a monkey who is trained to assist paraplegics and who becomes a bit too possesive of its new owner.
