If I voted seriously WSS which is genius from beginning to end.

But I voted for South Park since it cracks me up every time I see it...and it's easier to learn the words :D

But my fave EVER musical is 'Once More with Feeling' from Buffy...

Enough times to know most of the words - the whole not being able to sing bit is part of the joke...finest piece of post-modern TV ever I reckon...

Although I don't watch Buffy I watched the musical episode because I like musicals. I found it bafflingly bad. It felt like a musical written by someone who hadn't seen many himself, or had been told about them second-hand. Even taking into account the fact that it was meant to be a homage/parody, it didn't get close enough to the real thing to be funny or clever.

hehe, makes me feel much less sad about having watched it 5 or 6 times then

works if you watch it as part of the series, not as a one off tho, imo
finest piece of post-modern TV ever I reckon...
aye, you would wouldn't you :)

Oh blimey, I cant pick a fave. And seeing all the "other" choices too, has just made me want to visit Blockbusters right now.

If I had to pick some fav fav favs they would be

Cabaret
Grease
Fiddler on the Roof
West Side Story
Annie*
Moulin Rouge

In no particular order

I'm surprised there isnt a digital channel just for musicals. Or is there?

The other week I bought Victor Victoria on DVD. I had such good memories of this as a child. It must have been my fascination with cross dressing, rather than the songs. What a shit musical

* my sister was obsessed and I can still remember catching her warbling "Tomorrow" dressed up in full Annie costume, includng wig when she thought nobody was home (and that was only last year) :D

Oi, wheres' Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Hair?

And Cabaret of course. My favourite would be Rocky Horror, just shading it from Cabaret.

Good to see another musicals thread, its' that kind of genre whch you can never truly escape from, ( though I don't particularly want to!) :p

little shop of horrors..

be a dentist :)

My Fair Lady - Top quality tunes that you can't help singing along to

Cabaret - seedy, moving, and slightly scary with a bit of divine decadence thrown in :D

High Society - croon along with Frank :)

Most Elvis films :o (it's ok Savage Henry, you're not alone)

Oliver is number one for its pure watchcountlesstimesability.

Annie and Caberet can have a fight for places two and three depending on my mood.

I reckon if you can watch a musical time and time again and not get bored (like a epic album) then it's a classic musical. It's my gauge of greatness.

 :)

Oliver is number one for its pure watchcountlesstimesability.

Performing in three school productions at 8, 12 and 16 says it isn't...it might be watchable but having to perform it three times (Roger, Fagin and Roger again...never got my chance to shine in the lead :(:D:D) but yeah, got some catchy tunes I 'spose...

Jungle Book!!!!!

Although that's not a film is it?

It's a feature length cartoon thingy...

You mad woman!!!!

:o

Doubt anyone will have seen this as MGM have kept very tight reins on it's release, either on VHS/DVD or just as a soundtrack, which is rather annoying as IMO it's the best rendition ever.

edit: and bristle-krs, I know your list was a personal one but even so.... tsk tsk ;)

I would go for Oliver! One of the first films that I remember seeing at the cinema. The cast is great, the sets are great, the songs are great!
