Best festival of 2007

Maybe it wasn't clear that I was exclusively 'voting' from festies I'd actually been to. I know the Glade was notorious and I heard a lot of mud war stories from survivors!

:)

And I was voting for one I went to...

wha ya chatting bout miss grace?

Andy C didnt turn up at Bestival.

Twice.

I'll forgive rain and mud a lot quicker than I'll forgive that!!

(plus, just generally with bestival, i thought the music was badly put together. big name DJs in tiny tents. sound systems that just weren't fat enough. no shows and lateness. i suppose it depends what you want, but for my money, you just cant beat the wealth of wicked options tunes-wise you get at glasto)

Why the confused smiley? My two posts together make it clear enough what I meant. Have another look.

Because I was posting what I thought was the muddiest. Not offering opinion on your post. This thread is about peoples experiences, not just yours.

I have to say, I'm somewhat surprised at the amount of votes for Bestival. Isnt is a little bit corporate? Bit 'safe'? What's so great about it? Never been and dont know much about it ... enlighten me!

Anyone for V? lol.... just joshing ;)

I agree you'll never get the wealth of names and number of things going on that are at Glasto, but sunshine does beat the shit out of alot of things.

Move glastonbury to late July and we'll talk. ;)

For me, this year, it had to be the Big Green Gathering. I thought I was bored pf this festy but had a great time.

The food available there these days is lovely, great beer and cider too :)

OK it cannot rival Glasto but it is so friendly and ideal for anyone with younger teens because you feel ok about letting them go off on their own. My kids just had the time of their lives there this year,:)

I learnt to scythe :) and I met the lovely Madzone :) and I saw the Inner Terrrestials.

Oh and it was sunny and warm.

Glasto was ok but such hard work this year and defo did not have the random moment stuff. Everyone too busy keeping their balance in the swamp.

Why do you seem so determined to pick an utterly pointless (and utterly trivial) argument?

Where did I say that my this thread was all about me, pray? My first post was entirely personal true, but in no way was it meant to belittle anyone else's perspective, if you can point to where it attempts to do this, have a prize. You're reading into it something I'd be highly surprised that anyone else can see.

My post was ENTIRELY positive and friendly about festivals.

Wish I could say the same about your nitpicking, argument seeking contributions to this thread.

I found WOMAD the ultimate muddy festival for me this year, you found it to be the Glade. We're both right, both views are valid, and guess what, I said pretty much the same before and totally agreed. Where's the argument?

Sorry folks, we lost 3-0 in the footy tonight, it's cold, midweek, Deb's a long way off, and festival season seems an even longer way off. Takes deep breaths ...

All I done was voted for Glade... there is no argument till you piped up.

I'm nitpicking or seeking an argument for having an opinion different to yours?? Fuck off William, I can't be arsed with your picking on me today.

Only ultra windupmerchants or ultra trolls go on ignore -- rare achievement.

Congratulations. You are now on my very very short ignore list, and it feels grand! :)

Note to others : I'm not on Urban long enough these days to have either the time or the patience for being deliberately targetted for windups from this charmer. See post immediately above -- in which I'm told to fuck off for agreeing with him -- for only the latest of many examples.

QED.

Now, reverting to my entirely positive contributions about festivals to this thread ...

Whatever your problem is with me you've solved it yourself, I don't actually see what I have done wrong here.

Fairly interesting how free (or smaller) festivals like Strawberry Fair and Lambeth Country Show don't seem to feature much on peoples' best of summer radar ... understandable in a way, cos they don't have the lineups and stand out shows of the more frenetic festies that people remember, which is cool.

But as days out for having fun and being chilled in the sun (especially SF -- a rare scorcher) the small/free minow-festies have a lot going for them IMO ... just IMO obviously ... :)

Strawberry Fayre was always one of the high points of my festie season - now I'm in Edinburgh, it's just too far to go for a day out!.

Any other old codgers (other than William;) )remember the excellent community festies we used to have in London - Hackney Homeless, Lambeth, Brockwell Park etc?

As for best festie, I only went to The Glade and Glasto this year, both mudbaths:( Preference would have to go to The Glade due to the up for it, never say die punters.

Stokefest was a lovley day out too

well my festival of the year would be Tapestry, but then it was the only one i went to, i don't know why i'm even posting, it's just because i 've been working extremely hard for a little while and wanted a break.

I really enjoyed Strawberry Fair this year (the couple of tabs knocked back at 2pm probably had something to do with that) but best of all was Bloom down Bath way in August. Four days, only about 3000 people in beautiful surrounds and a nice smallish area so not too tiring and easy access to your tent/car etc. So good, I've already got an early-bird ticket for next year.

I thought Bloom would be right up the urbanites' alley but nobody seemed to know or care much about it when I posted last summer!

yes! :( well, when i say 'remember', what i mean is, i'm reliably informed both that they happened and that i enjoyed them...

i only made it to one festival this year and it was big green gathering. while i didn't enjoy being shouted at by stupid anti- authority hippies who think that anyone in an orange tabard is, like, a Toootal Fuuuucking Faaaascist, maaaan, the rest of it was top tackle. except not being able to meet madzone for soap- felting fun because i was busy being shouted at by hippies.

I'd like to respond with an opinion but probably shouldn't in case it gets taken completely the wrong way

you clearly don't know when you're at your favourite festival of the year:rolleyes:

Do hope you're less confused now marty ;)

Let a thousand different opinions on festivals bloom** -- I really do love threads like this.

**as was no doubt pretty clear and obvious to everyone that I think and always did think, from pretty much every post I've made on this thread

I know you know that I know pagan :p ... but I used to love those London free festivals from the late eighties and early nineties. Chaotic and classic -- Deptford Urban, Hackney Homeless, etc. Amazing how they were allowed ... Does anyone recall a really obscure (and tiny) one -- Pullens Festival, Walworth, 1987?

Stokefest and the like are good, but not in the same league ...

And as for the now defunct :( Legalise Cannabis March and Festival of fond recent memory .... :p
