Best festival for toddlers

braindancer

not for long
We want to take our twin daughters to their first festie this summer....they will be two in July. Which one should we go to?

first that spring to mind are WOMAD and Shambala. My BF took his son to WOMAD first time as a toddler he is now 7 and becoming a veteran of many festivals.

I'm taking my toddler to Endorse it which has got loads of kid-friendly activities and it's not very big so I hope I won't lose him :D

I think that's a good idea. Endorse-It's tiny and the kids area looked good. Sheo's lad was having a good time whenever I saw him at the last one. :)

Thanks people - I think this could be the one... we were planning a trip to dorset over the summer anyway so could combine with the festy.:)

I started going to womad as a toddler and that was 26 years ago! it's good fun :)

This year we will be doing Camp Bestival instead though for a change and because its supposed to be child friendly

I thought you were coming to endorse-it? :(

ETA - come along braindancer - would be nice to 'know' of more people with toddlers in tow :)

yeah we are  :) - I think we're doing 5 festivals this summer

but womad and camp bestival clash so we chose to do camp bestival.

Five?! :eek::D

Oh phew! I was thinking with my trashy head on rather than the wiskey one and the trashy one says no more than two festivals a year. The wiskey head is more hardcore

Top of the pile for kiddie friendliness is definitely Solfest. They really push the boat out for the junior punters but it’s in Cumbria so if you’re based in the South it’s probably further than you’d want to travel with a couple of toddlers in the car.

Wychwood is absolutely teeming with kids and has loads of marquees doing all sorts of activities. It’s a little too safe & sanitised for my tastes but that’s exactly why it’s so appealing to families so I’d certainly consider it if the Tortlets were still little.

WOMAD is also brilliant for kids but you do have to get your names down early for a lot of the activities as they book up very quickly. The kids parade at the end of the weekend is definitely the biggest & most impressive you’re likely to see.

Afraid I have to say that I disagree with Sweet FA over Big Chill being kid friendly. The kids tent is stuck away at one end of the site and kids aren’t even allowed in a lot of the venues in the evenings. Plus the site is big & hilly & not very buggy friendly.

Shambala is absolutely fab for kids, yes. Loads to do, all completley integrated with the rest of the site (not miles away from anything like the Big Chill), just a really safe, happy atmosphere. Same with Endorse It as well.

Tort's advice is all good. Endorse It, WOMAD and especially Camp Bestival are all very good for kids. Also Beautiful Days, though a little on the pricey side for familes, has a lot going on for kids. The fact that it's the Levellers' festival :p doesn't contradict the fact that the kids area is large with loads going on :)

I don't think I want to expose such young minds to the horror of the Levellers.:D

I dont rate the beautiful days kids area in comparison to Shambala-which caters for very small kids and babies.

Guess it depends where you're camping. I've only ever camped in family camping and it's always seemed really easy - not too far to drag everything from the car park and next door to the field with the kid's tent in it. The fairground was in the middle last year but you're right about pushing laden prams up to the 'healing' field or whatever it was called (where the cider bus was anyway ;)). I can see it would be a gigantic pain if you were camped anywhere except the family field. I have to say though, it was better last year when Sunrise had a field; loads of (free!) stuff for kids to do and the 24hr cafe was a godsend at 6am, trying to find something to do with toddler early risers

The thing about not letting kids in various venues didn't affect us so much as we tried to have them all tucked up by 7. I can see it being more of a hassle as they get older and want to be doing stuff later. I'll end up going again this year but more because a load of us always get together there, so we can swap babysitting and at least get a couple of munted nights out. Orbital ftw!

Best baby and toddler area at any festival imo ;)

e2a Last year's BD had a superb baby and toddlers' area in the family camping fields, but it won't be there this year.

Endorse It or Blissfields both great, we have taken our kids to both several times. First time we took them my little girl was about 3 months old and my lad was about 20 months old

Green Man is very kid friendly, co-campers who had taken theirs to Womad & Big Chill in previous years said it was better than either of them

No, fuck them and their mud covered Levellers love in

Looks like we will be at Sunrise, BGG, Shambala and a little local affair this summer.

We did Womad and Green Man last year with our 1 year old and he seemed to love every minute of both. Womad had loads on but all the kids activities looked very popular. Green Man was a bit of a struggle cause of the weather but a fantastic site for kids to run round on. Our little one was made very welcome by everyone at both festivals.

Going to give Camp Bestival a go this year as well as Green Man again.
