Well done for starting this thread, alsoknownas
Some seriously good contributions on this thread.
I recently learned about Lichelle Laws aka Boss. Her I Don't Give a Fuck record was played on Netflix' Orange is the New Black, and I loved it. She raps about gang banging but I subsequently found out that she did not belong to any gang, came from an upper middle class family and was privately educated. But hey, I don't give a fuck, in fact I loved all of Born Gangstaz.
Yeah, and I think that the 'revelation' about her upbringing was the ruin of her career. But I don't care. She's clearly got serious skills and has an affinity and connection with the subjects and communities she's rhyming about. A lost poet if ever there was one.
Another vote for Jean Grae AKA What What
Dunno about the best, but how about some love for Envy:
Here come the Rah:
UK sistas banging mics to death: (1:32 if you want to skip to the choon)
Mmmm... I'm liking some Lady Leshurr and the deliciously named Paigey Cakey, sweet voices:
Even more Nolay
NoLay is soooo funny, she doesn't care what she says at all!
Well she is also very serious in the subjects she brings up too
I know, she's amazing
Im not sure if Lil Debbie will get anywhere near the Great British Bakeoff (or the U.S equivalent) with her kitchen etiquette but at least its not boring
