The Duell

At least that is what I think it was called, about a car driver chased by a big rig 16 wheeler.

Isn't there a decent one in Raising Arizona, other than that I have only seen:

Bullit
French Connection

The rest on that list I wouldn't go near

:)

Then you have no taste, the Bourne films fucking rock :D

Duel...good idea, Spielbergs first film too...I remember first seeing it when I was about 8 or 9 and allowed up late to see the 'car chase film' and it scared me shitless!!

The Great Escape is an obvious choice, isn't it. After all, no matter how many times you watch it you're still willing him to make it over the border.

yeah im always suprised i havent seen it.

i guess im suspcious of any film thats shown a lot during the xmas shedule.

not seen any of these old skool ones (Bullit, french conection etc) but Ronin was amazing. Was quite impressed with Matrix Revolutions (the second one....) as well, till I realised that almost all the cars in it were CGI. Plus it was just a whack film.

I'm going to be shot down for this one, but The Fast and the Furious had some pretty cool car chase bits in it, as well, especially the one at the start when the car has to go drive under the moving lorry. Plus, I model my whole life on Vin Diesel.

I was going to mention TFATF but didn't want to risk the mockery of admitting my deep love for that movie :D

The French Connection one is worth watching by itself - absolutely amazing, and there's a tale that it was only half legally shot...

The thing about the car chase in Bullit is that while it must have been pretty awe inspiring in 1968, it seems pretty sedate when you watch it now, compared against the 40 years of car chases since then, all trying to be bigger and better than the last one.

It was also shot at half speed IIRC

Come on k&a, the 2nd one is really, really shite!! The only really decent bit is the drag race with the muscle cars and the rice rockets, and even that's some pale shit compared to the first one...

I really like tyrese so i can allow the film and that chinease girl is silly hot.

Umm i have no defence, i like mindless action films.

Ronin FTW.

Whilst not "the greatest car chase in film history", as Tarantino claimed it would be, the 2nd half of 'Death Proof' is good stuff too (extra points for the scatty Aussie on the hood throughout).

Also, the super-slow chase down the alley in 'Way Of The Gun' was a cool twist on the formula.

Vanishing Point

Kowalski, 1970 Dodge Challenger, Denver to San Francisco, Cleavon Little, Bulldozers!!

"And there goes the Challenger, being chased by the blue, blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver, the last American hero, the electric centaur, the, the demi-god, the super driver of the golden west! Two nasty Nazi cars are close behind the beautiful lone driver. The police numbers are gettin' closer, closer, closer to our soul hero, in his soul mobile, yeah baby! They about to strike. They gonna get him. Smash him. Rape... the last beautiful free soul on this planet."

No contest.

I love Vanishing Point, but wouldn't put it up as a car-chase.

Bullitt is good, so is Ronin.

Nobody's mentioned:
