Best Concert Movie?

MC5 live at the 68 Democrats convention. Filmed by COINTELPRO and powered by an ice-cream van. The only band not to bottle it, the only band to turn up, the only band to play in the middle of the riot.

(and i've just remembered, DM, i;ve not sent your discs, balls, will send this aft)

is that whole gig available on film?

i've only ever seen clips of it in some MC5 documentary.

It was released under a Freedom of Information request, not been made commercially availible - i suspect that was a condtion of release. Why someone hasn't bootlegged it i don't know...

yes yes yes!!! that's it!! and in the same song there's byrne doing that motion like he'd 'chopping' down his arm and it cuts to shamanic rituals and stuff!! wembly arena! yes yes!!!

AMAZING film

Dunno why it's never been released. Would've been a good little extra on the expanded re-release of 'Stop Making Sense' at the very least.

Maybe it looks a bit dated now or something. I doubt it, though - 'Stop Making Sense' has stood the test of time really well.

no one mentioned U2's Rattle & Hum movie yet? :D

I went to the CINEMA to see it with a date :o

I went to see that as a double bill with "Song Remains the Same" as the main feature - don't think I've ever tried to wish a film to end as much. When we finally got to the end - "Song Remains the Same" was really shit quality print.

I love "Woodstock" - especially my specially re-edited version splicing in all the extra footage in the correct running order. Sad I know - but it's designed so you can take a tab at the beginning and be peaking just as they make the crowd announcement about "Bad brown acid".

Another vote for "Stop Making Sense" as well - used to watch it all the time with a mate who's sadly no longer with us. Lots of good memories! :)

Prince - Sign of the Times

Greatest living musician? Played 33 instruments on his first album alone, a class A genius.

I saw the Rolling Stones film Shine A Light earlier on this year which was quite good.
Tonight I'm off to see a this Patti Smith film which I'm hoping will be very  indeed..
