Hello,

I am not really up to speed with compacts at the moment. I am looking to buy a comact camera for work. It will be used in youth clubs and at events so needs to be pretty robust (metal body preferable?). Some level of movie capture might be useful as well as some optical zoom.

I have £120-150 to spend I suppose. If these is something cheaper though, even better.

Any recommendations?

Canon IXUS 80 IS about £110.

Sony CyberShot W130 around £100.

Meet all your requirements. Doubt you'd need more than 8MP.

Doubt you can get anything really good in that price range unless you go for a discontinued model. I would look at the bargains section at Asda or even Tesco's.

If you want to get something really cheap I would recommend a Kodak C813 as they are only about £50. My son got one of the older C613 models last year and I was surprised how good it is.

I have always wanted one of these:

I think the biggest problem with cameras with pop out lenses is that the mechanism is probably all plastic and liable to damage so something like the Z20fd is safe bet for rougher treatment.

On behalf of Minnie The Minx who is presently on vacation, if you;re going to be taking pics in rooms with poor lighting conditions, a Fuji might be worth considering but as to the exact model I have no clue. PM Minnie as she does seem to know a lot about compact cameras for poor lighting

That's probably the Super CCD sensor. I've a F45fd which has it, got the camera cheap from clearance bargains the Argus outlet on ebey.

Great camera for indoor pictures. No viewfinder though.

Lidl had a fuji fine pix(iirc) this week. Think it was £130. I have a fuij. I like it, tis basic but good.

I know bugger all about cameras

It was Editor and various other posters on here who suggested the Fuji Finepix F11 would be an ideal idiot-proof camera for me :o:D

I was gonna say if you could stretch to an extra £100 then you could get a canon G9 off Amazon - £229 IIRC

Buy me a camera (£100 budget)

Mate of mine needs a happy snappy entry level digital camera

* pocket size
