Best comic book to film adpatation?

I was thinking of an animated version - a live action adaptation didn't occur to me!
Now, The Watchmen - I started reading that but found it dull and gave up.

Watchmen does require persistence, but it's well worth sticking with IMO. It's meant to be read more than once, and each time you read it, you find new things - connections between characters, repeated visual symbols & links, dual narratives, historical in-jokes, and so on. Much of which will be lost on the big screen, but WTF. If they can make a decent movie out of something as labyrinthine as LA Confidential, it could be done with Watchmen...

I'm really looking forward to the film of Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel about growing up in Iran. It got a great reviews when it was shown in Cannes this year.

I would like to see an adaptation of Maus
In Persepolis the drawing style remains identical and from what I have seen (i havent seen the film yet) id say it looks better than the original comic book - it really brings it to life wihtout loosing the feel...

a scene from the film:

Maus would be a harder task - the graphic style is more low key, and there are some bits that only work on paper: like him struggling to draw after an argument with his dad.

Little fustrated incidents like this (of which there are many) really make Maus what it is - not sure how well these would sit in a film:

maybe there is some way to make it work... The more I think about it the more I want this to happen!

Ooh yeah American Splendour was great.
Not quite an adaptation: its a biopic about the author of the American Splendour comics, and I think was subtitled 'The Life and Times of Harvey Pekar'

The film is an adaptation.
His series of American Splendour comics were autobiographical
