Best Burgers in Brickstown?

It's the old George IV. Feels bloody weird going in there without the deluge of psy kids and wibbly k-heads if I'm honest.

Surprisingly nice - we went earlyish Sat lunchtime and it was a fairly mixed crowd. Friendly staff too. Looks like it does a generous all day breakfast and, if the BBQ's going, it had a few decent looking specials, from lamb chops through to sea bass.

No real atmosphere or sign of a regular crowd either, but pleasant enough for a bite out,

Whats this guy's obsession with burgers all about anyway, weirdness..

He's got some kind of food phobia, so he can only eat certain things without feeling really really uncomfortable... he's gettiun better at eating different stuff at home now, like my roast chicken :D, but if he goes out to eat and there isn't a Nando's, then it has to be a chicken burger.... He's diabetic, has been from birth, so it's abit of a worry but he's working really hard to make some positive steps to work it all out... Eating outs still a struggle for him tho which is why i really appreciate them offering to take me to lunch on my birthday :)

I had a good burger at the re-opened brixton bar and grill a while back - 2 for 1 deal i think on mondays too.

Its today... i think we'll try the southside place either that or the prince regent... is that on brixton water lane by brockwell park?

I had a burger in the Dogstar on Saturday based on advice here.

£6.50 - it was very very good, lots of good toppings to choose from - it doesn't come with chips, just a few tortillas on the side. You can get a portion if you like but you don't need them - I was stuffed after just the burger.

I've heard that the Lounge does good burgers but I don't eat meat so I wouldn't know for sure.

I had a burger at the lounge yeseterday and it was very disappointing. I was hoping for a proper meaty juicy burger with good chunky chips. Instead I got a burger which was clearly bought in not home made, and was not very good quality either. It was rather solid and dry, i'd asked for it to be done quite rare but it was overdone. Also the chips weren't great either. Neither was it cheap - at least the price of a standard burger at somewhere like gourmet burger kitchen, where the burgers are really good.

I'd like to point out that generaly I really like the lounge - part of the reason I was so disappointed.

Great burgers, but I do resent having to pay extra for a few chips tbh - it seems strange getting just a burger. Bloody huge though and near impossible to eat in polite company - I never manage to get half way through before the bread starts to dissolve around the mighty slab of meat.

The Goose is obviously the answer. Two pints, one large spirit with mixer and a hefty burger for 6.5 quid. Get tanked up and go to a 'posher' pub afterwards. I mean, what can go wrong????

Not going to argue with you there. I do something similar in the Crown and Sceptre on top of Brixton Hill. I'm no pub snob but I just hate the Goose

Ya I know what you mean about the chips. Even if you don't eat them they should make an appearance.

It's a slow loss of dignity. It comes all wrapped up and clean looking and you can take a delicate bite and and dabble you lips with a napkin. This progresses to end game where you end up on your knees with juice running down your elbows, table and floor littered with sodden napkins eating the burger, without hands, directly from the table like a dog.

How can anyone knock Negril?!!

I love that place, they do the best bean burgers ever. I would travel a long way for one of those, the chips are great too. Service can be a bit lame, but it's great in the summer when the BBQ's are going on... Love it!!

in reply to the question of this thread i am now going to put my backing behind 'the prince' next to kfc

the thing about them is that they give u a really good size portion of home-made chips...i hate paying £8 for a burger and getting only a handful of chips.
their burgers are top quality too, but what sets them apart form others is the amount of chips u get

good work the prince.
my girlfriend also reckons their sunday roasts are the best in london

I know its not Brixton but you could trek out a bit further and go to the Gourmet Burger Company in East Dulwich...?

the fuckers tried to charge me a quid for a splodge of sauce - £8.00 for a veggie burgeu ( overdone portabello mushroom ), £2.50 for a bowel of chips.

cant speak for the meat burgers tho'

I've only eaten in the Gourmet Burger Company in Earls Court, but it was fucking crap. Massively overpriced as the bun was far, far bigger than the burger. You were litrally having two big bites of bread before you even went anywhere near the burger. The menu looked great but it was garbage, never again.

Got to agree with the slating of the Gourmet Burger Co. Went to the one in Brighton - and they charged me £2.50 for a tiny bowl of obviously frozen mashed-shite rubbishy chips. I complained ("gourmet"??) - the chef came out and confessed that they were frozen...I think I got a small refund. But the burgers were nothing special. I thought it was a real con job - lots of 'classy' furnishings and branding, rubbish food. Oh and slightly tetchy service too. And expensive. I've had the same sort of standard food out of a decent burger van at football, half the price, twice as quick, no poncing about.
