best beer garden in south london ?

The DofE's a bit better of late. New (tattooed) management and a bit of a better atmosphere. Not sure their comprehensive wine list is going to take off, but the place seems more loved and under control.

Some of the residents around there remain pricks. Considering just how debauched the Duke used to be, it beggars belief that folks find it too noisy now. It's a shame that the huge beer garden is so underutilised really.

they have good wine? i'm there!
i can't say i've ever noticed any pricks there, but i usually go there in a large group and don't notice anyone else.

he means the residents complaining about the noise - after moving next to a pub with a garden.

:D
bryan adams. the fucker moved to down the road from a noisy local, so he bought it and then closed it down cos he didn't like the noise.

my old housemate once got into a massive radge about getting a noise abatement order on our local.
he got woken up by playing 'its raining men' one saturday night....

back on topic.. good beer garden in south london?
i like the hootenanny (but am biased due to their gardening skillz).
the rye (i think?) on peckham rye has quite a nice one as well.

It's probably a bit far east, but the Richard I in Greenwich has a cracking beer garden, as does the Prince of Wales in Blackheath. :)

The Duke's garden was fabulous until the fucking yups moved in and started their selfish bleating.
was the pub of choice when i was a student, we caused all sorts of mayhem there :o relahni's gaff was within staggering distance over the footbridge so was always a first choice for hot days

last time we went, it was positively souless....and the beer garden was empty

Me and memespring wandered up there for a drink in the beer garden on one of the really hot Sundays a couple of weeks ago. We got there at 3pm. We were the only people in there :eek:

true - I went there some years ago, before I was bechilded.

Personally, you can't go wrong with pub on the park for a good pub which is tolerant of kids. But that's the wrong end of London.

The Herne Tavern, Forrest Hill Road, East Dulwich
Huge walled backgarden with playground for kids

The predominance of families at the weekend means I avoid it like the plague, but if you are sprogged up, its ideal - plus the food is well good, owned by the same peeps as run the Palmerston on Lordship Lane

The Leather Bottle in Earsfield has a fucking massive garden with lovely lush lawn- very nice.
