Best Beck song?

Dub is totally right to mention Burro, the mariachi thing is kind of key to what he does in general IMO. (Maybe less so from Midnight Vultures onwards)

i'm bloody not, it's lovely. I played it out last Saturday and lots of people asked what it was. I love mariachi stuff and I love this song.
Outside, sir, now

After you.

*ow*

I thought we were just going out to have a ciggi and discuss music. Bitch.

I thought you were being a record nerd because it's only avilable on the double disk gatefold 7''

Yeah, Loser is another of those great tunes worn out from overuse. Maybe if I don't listen to it for about a decade it might get a bit of a second wind.

somehow, the first Beck song I ever heard was MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack

Which is fucking great! :)

It's really hard to sing and play the piano and sing like in the second half of the song and make it swing like he does.

I love Debra so much.
'...I said, "Lay-deeee, step inside my Hyundai...' :D

Sissyneck too.
'I got a beard that would disappear if I'm dressed in leather...' :D

His lyrics are often pure playful nonsense, and you get the feeling that you're just getting style over content, with little emotional depth from him. Sometimes though, he does melancholy beautifully. Stuff like The Golden Age, Jack-ass, One Of These Days and the Boards Of Canada mix of Broken Drum.

Quite fond of Halo Of Gold and Deadweight as well.

Sometimes it's the lyrics, sometimes just the mood. -Slippery bugger, isn't he?...

nah, it's on the remix album isn't it?

i dunno, i just downloaded it :)

eta: ah, it's on Stray Blues

Oh well then before the remix album (whatever that is) it was only available on the double 7'' of Jackass.

So I am in fact the nerd.

Yes, a very underrated album. I thought it was a big load of nothing at first, but it grew on me (still a bit overproduced though).

It's probably the most under-produced Beck album !

yeah - meanwhile, get some quality Spin Doctors listening in :)

Whats the one on Mellow Gold that goes Play it on til the dawn, I'll be lonesome when I'm gone?

That one, anyway. I only really like Mellow Gold. The rest of his stuff is alright, but nothing all that amazing.

It is good.

Favourite song probably Sing it Again. Or maybe the Boards if Canada remixed Broken Drum (but that's cheating)
