Best 90s 'cult' film?

Was it because you openly compared her to Christina Ricci?
I had the same problem with a dunce of a fella about Kylie once :D

No, it was just really grim so we had an argument instead. with hindsight I think maybe it touched a nerve about empty lives and avoiding talking about important things :hmm:

There were lots of great cult movies from the 90's
Romper Stomper
Once were warriors
La Haine
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
The Big Lebowski
Bad Lieutenant
The Cable Guy
Fifth Element
Slacker
Thelma and Louise

In fact the 1990's was the best decade for cult movies, ever..

So take your pick.. mine's The Big Lebowski..

The Dude said:
Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

that would do it...

I think we watched the Can't Get You Out of my Head video and he practically mentally wanked himself off the couch. I got insecure. We combusted.

Not quite as complex really :D

I give up. Alllfilms are cult.

I'd argue that the nature of the media in the 90s and now means cult films no longer exist, actually CAN'T exist.

That isn't true, they just don't make it to the cinema anymore

I think Akira is a good example, it was a cult film before tartan bought it and translated it and so on. It wasn't properly released over here on video until 1992 or something

So it's still a cult film, even though it is well known now

so a cult film is a film that hasn't been translated widely yet?

bollocks.

El Topo, Eraserhead - these are cult movies. But the nature of cinema, the nature of the media, it's a different world.

what would the new definition be then?

I think anything 'cult' is picked up on so quickly now that nothing really gets to develop.

I'm not sure, but we can surely imagine it being the same basic but with a wider distro to the same sort of people. That said. availibility does take a big chunk out of it.

For new films you might be riight, for old films i'm not so sure.

I think Man Bites Dog is a very good film.

I am also always surprised at the number of people who say they have seen it themselves so it could possible be up there in some way as a "successful" cult film.

no, but akira became a massive film in the west for people because of word of mouth in the 80s, it was translated and advertised in the 90s and became an 'overground hit' but it had a cult following first

Things can be regarded as 'cult' even if they are mainstream

ie the red hot chili peppers are now mainstream, but will always have a cult following of fans that loved them in the 80's & 90's

IMO you can apply the same logic to films

Sorry, but there's not a single statement in your post that's true.
