That explains why mine was £250
She has a lovely personality and follows you around, but is rarely interested in being stroked or picked up. She constantly claws furniture and carpets to my parents' distress (never people though, doesn't seem to know how), and only eats chicken breast and refuses cat food, the little git. That's mostly my parents' fault for giving in to her constant miaowing though (which they really hate, but giving in just reinforces that it works to her). I do love her though, she's a really sweet cat![]()
Have I misread or is this a British Shorthair? (used to be called British Blue but they come in all colours now!) As the most popular breed in England the normal price can be a bit less than other breeds due to the large number of breeders around.
Their nature is to be quite laid back, or even aloof- the thing about purebred cats which appeals to the people who choose to have them, is that you have some indication of their nature (if raised and socialised properly) depending upon their breed.
All cats can have problems due to being highly territorial and needing to mark territory - one of the main behavioural problems people see in cats is clawing at carpets in doorways or furniture in certain places, especially if used to divide a larger room - but this is not due to breed or socialisation, it's territorial scent marking (they have scent glands in their paw pads and scratching leaves both a visual and olfactory marker), and the place a cat feels most driven to do it is the carpet in doorways as it represents a boundary in territorial space - or in corners which are less likely to get facial scent pheremone markers because the cat doesn't rub its face and body on them frequently. I bet if your parents provided a tall catnip-impregnated scratching post by the main problem area (or 2 if there is more than 1 problem spot, you can also get scratchers that fit around the corners of furniture if this habit is particularly ingrained) and sprayed Feliway in secondary problem areas, it would probably minimise a lot of that behaviour.

Much of the time except in kittens, cats scratching inappropriately is because appropriate scratching posts and mats etc. being placed in positions that are not important to the cat, so they ignore them. A bit of household reorganisation trying to think like a cat and what is important to them can be invaluable in cases like this

he's ridiculously handsome & soft and has a golden sheen they call glitter. his previous owner gave us a leash and harness that we won't be using, and also a load of straws, which are his favourite thing to play with.

i've had every flavour moggy under the sun, but in 24 hours he's turned me into one of those people that think their pets are kids
he's got the most wicked personality ever, incredibly playful and people-focused and he's really starting to settle in, he's been curled up asleep on my feet for the past couple of hours
