Bendy bus gets police escort down Coldharbour Lane...

and here (from The Standard)

Earlier in the day, officers detained 180 youths in Harleyford Road, near the Oval, who were believed to be on their way to cause trouble at the carnival.

Officers bussed 151 of them to south London police stations where they were detained until the carnival was over. Seven were arrested for possession of bladed articles or public order offences.

The police nicked loads of people at Vauxhall after suspecting they were goingn to attend carnival to cause trouble. They kettled the people, and then nicked them for not being happy at being kettled ie they threw the odd bottle. They also stopped loads of others from travelling with illegal restrictions on travel being made at East Croydon and West Croydon stations, and at most stations in the Lewisham area. These restrictions were broad brushed and made on age and race and dress style.

Did the bendy bus in question look arabic?
Perhaps it was being detained under the Terriorism Act cause it looked bent (crooked)?

what time was that?

I went through East Croydon on Sunday on my way to carnival and didn't see any police at all.

There were some at Victoria though.

Mind you, there are a minority of right fucking pricks who go to the Carnival (note I have problem with just calling it "Carnival". When did that start up, by the way?).

Same thing happened at the Lambeth Country Show. Police rounded up about 60 trouble makers outside the Half Moon, commandeered and emptied a Number 68 bus and took them off to the nick.

It's always been carnival. Outside of the BBC reporters, people always went to mas or carnival, not to the carnival. It's not a strict rule I guess, but I'd suggest that media usage is beginning to more accurately reflect what a hefty chunk of people called it in the first place.

I moved to London in 1982 or 83 and it was referred to as Carnival then by the people who took me

on the radio this morning they said 150 people were arrested at Oval for 'causing trouble' post-carnival, don't know if it's related to the bendybus....

EDIT not 150 arrested but still a bit of a ruck:

DOUBLE MEGA EDIT there's a thread on this in 'London & SE'.

I'm astonished anyone got done for knife possession. That means that as the police detained 150 (which would take some time) some people were stupid enough not to throw their knives on the ground. That stupid and they're probably doing to stab themselves.

Everyone I know have been using it like that for years (in fact the last two decades): "You going carnival this year?" etc...

Apparently a few of the guys apprehended were asked given that they out numbered the police initially (something like 4-1) why they didn't leg it. To which they replied; "We thought it was just a normal stop and search and fucking would've if we knew it wasn't!"

:D

Can you encourage them to post up some more up to date crime figures on their website please? We're currently referring to figures that are a year old...

Sorry, been off-line for a couple of days. Yes, the meeting will cover the arrest of 151 young men at Oval, the recent death in custody of Sean Rigg, the death Saturday of a 15 yr old on a moped following a police chase. Very worrying times.

Will it cover the thinking behind letting the KFc corner be used for drug peddling so openly? I assume its best to leave them there than push them elsewhere where not so easily watched or something?
