Being subservient at work

Repeatedly crush them intellectually. That type usually aren't too smart (hence the insecure need for subservience) and can be battered with rational thought. They still won't agree with you, or acquiesce to your opinion, but they'll find it hard to lord it over you once you've metaphorically floored them a few times.

As you can tell from the above, I don't have the patience. A swift "fuck off and let me do my job" does the trick :D

Totally. Having arguments is fun, it's a case of you may be my boss but let me do my job, my way, to make us both look good - and as long as I'm making you look good you aren't going to give me any hassle. Subservience has it's place (to get you what you want, when you want it) but have your own agenda, and when it comes to it don't hesitate to throw that person under the bus as they would do the same to you without even thinking about it.

Never seen this work, I must know particular thick twats.

For example a long time ago in another company I was covering for my boss around appraisal time. In his inbox was some feedback about me from a very senior director. It was a glowing reference that for two paragraphs showered me with pirase, the last two lines said that I needed to learn to be more patience with people who didn't understand some things as easterly as me - which was fair. You can guess which part made it into my appraisal.

So knowing this and being a grumpy fucker I asked him for three examples of anything negative in my appraisal, using the age old trick when asking difficult questions of being very quite until he answered.

He fucking hated it and even argued with me when I pointed out in my comments that he could give me any examples.

He was still a wanker after that. I've founded the smartest people generally don't mind honest feedback, the dumb ones try and crush it.

'and as long as I'm making you look good you aren't going to give me any hassle' that isnt always true, sometimes they treat you like a complete fool for doing that.

'Repeatedly crush them intellectually. That type usually aren't too smart ' that doesnt always work either, as showing up your boss can make them come down on you like a ton of bricks.

I think i have worked out that I am incredibly strong willed person and probably a nightmare to manage, possibly the only way a new boss can tackle me it to become completely overbearing...otherwise I take the piss....

Oh well...:P
