Being A Drummer In A US Punk Band..

And the title of the thread is....................

i wasn't being that precise, to be fair, and the thread had moved on to be more about the styles associated with certain labels, which include Canadians on their roster.

well I was thinking NoFx and Bad Religion specifically. Not sure Green Day are frauds necessarily, they started well

Tre Cool is a solid drummer though, regardless of ones' thoughts on Green Day. He is very good at what he does.

I think it's unfair to call BR's drum parts dull as well. Brooks Wackerman is also very good.

Fugazi used to mix up the time signatures a bit and had some great tunes. Might have got dull at times for other reasons though if straight edged isn't your thing.

I reckon as the lines behind punk, hardcore and technical metal blur, there'll be less 4/4 insanity with fills (as you write) and more metal-esque (?!) technicality required.

Were you thinking of bands like Green Day and Offspring and Rancid and other frauds when you wrote the thread? If so, I'd agree 100%

how are Rancid frauds?

Oh, it's in-built in my punk snobbery to say that any band that sells more than 500 copies of a split EP but doesn't then retire are bound to be frauds. You know, the usual punk-ghetto / twisted snobbery you'll have read a billion times on a billion BBs. Usual stuff.

gotcha :D ;)

Right clicking on the picture and selecting 'properties' says its Steve Goold. Then you wiki him.

Jesus. The amount of forward thinking, progressive people on this site that need spoon feeding astounds me.

(I still wouldnt have gone to that Lightning Bolt gig though)

I remember on the Vans warped tour (2003 or so iirc) the winner of the drum competition was pushing 1000+ bpm without rolling or something... Fucking insane speeds. I dunno, that means very little, but there's something about the simple punk rhythms that is actually quite challenging and can be pretty awesome when done well.
