Yep. A big box with diamond bracing. Functional for max profit. Any ideas for its nickname?

1 Undershaft – Proposed tallest skyscraper in the City Of London is a boring box

A ‘public square’ will also be part of the scheme and the skyscraper is planned to have London’s highest viewing gallery which will have free public access.
Sounds alright to me.

And according to the info in the link, the design comes out of the need to have that public square.

This is how we should design tall buildings, if they are an inevitability.

It's not that bad. And it's better than the walkie talkie and all those other bollocks buildings in that there City of London.

Tons better than the revised design for the Pinnacle site, which is an anonymous glass slab like something from Houston (it's hiding behind the others in that image).

Would look great with another X-worth on top to give the cluster a proper peak, but that's impossible while City Airport exists.

This won't be built for ages though mind. The existing building has just be refurbed for the current tenants, and it'll take a long time to demolish. A shame, IMO. It's quite a handsome little tower.

Large sections of the Gherkin remain empty because it's too expensive.

If they can build a building that's cheap enough for people to actually rent then in my mind that makes more sense than having a pretty landmark.

I have to agree with this:

"Too many of these towers are of mediocre architectural quality and badly sited. Many show little consideration for scale and setting, make minimal contribution to public realm or street-level experience and are designed without concern for their cumulative effect and impact. Their generic designs, typical of fast-growing cities around the world, threaten London's unique character and identity."

Campaigners fight to save London skyline from 230 more skyscrapers

The scalpel looks good just south of the cheesegrator (what a sentence!) But how many glass buildings close together do we want?! I wonder in 30 years time if we're look back on them in the same fashion that we look back on some of the 60s concrete brutalist architecture. Where's the variety?!

As for the 1 Undershaf, completely awful, unlike the ditched Pinnacle.

I think it looks great. Clean and simple; slim and elegant.

It fits the surrounding cluster too. It would be easy to make that area a fucking mess when seen from a distance but that compliments it.

It slots in nicely between Leadenhall and SMA from that angle. It seems ..... correct.

having given the matter further thought i am impressed with the new structure which may find its apotheosis in being the final launch pad for politicians.
