Beetroot

I've a feeling I can cope with disguised beetroot that doesn't have to be boiled first.

Plus I can eat that side salad at Pizza Express that has dry bits of red in it, which may or may not be grated beetroot but isn't runny and doesn't smell.

Does that narrow it down a bit?

:D

Is beetroot the same as beets (American style?). I make beet chips sometimes, not bad and ridiculously nutritious. Are beetroots red before they're pickled? I think beets might be more like turnip.

Roast them with a bit of olive oil and a bit of red wine vinegar (or balsamic like Beeboo says) and salt and pepper, they go all caramelly and wonderful!

I've just come into possession of three of these. Trouble is, I can't stand the stuff.

Anyone got any bright ideas of what to make with them that isn't too beetrooty? Or should I just chuck them out now and be done with it?

I've been waiting to find out out why you nicked the beetroot if you don't like it. The thrill of the theft perhaps, the temptation of the unknown? Whatever, the good thief's code reads, don't nick what you don't like or can't sell. Sorted.

I got a recipe for beetroot in the post today!

Beetroot Jelly:
1 packet strawberry jelly
1 packet raspberry jelly
250g grated cooked beetroot
250g mixed fruit berries (defrosted frozen ones are fine)

1) Make jelly as instructed, using 50ml less water than instructed.
2) Add beetroot & berries
3) Allow to set

It came from http://www.maggiescentres.org/community who do cancer support, so I'd guess its fairly palatable - though unfortunately you'd need to cook the beetroot first. :D

I didn't steal anything.

I get a veg box delivered every week, and this week they delivered the wrong one. When I phoned up to query it, they asked me if I'd mind keeping it without charge and they'd credit me with the stuff I hadn't had. All above board. Except I got a load of stuff that I wouldn't normally order.

lyra, these are the beetroot I meant, I don't know if they're the same as beets:

I could try roasting one lynne and beeboo, that's a good idea.

Ms O, that sounds like a great recipe come summertime when berries are cheaper. Although I'm not averse to buying chocolate for brownies/cake - how perverse is that :D

I had similar to this from a friends Mum. Just cooked beetroot with blackcurrent jelly. Very nice it is.

I'm going to try and grow white beetroot this year. no more pink stains! and well, just downright weird...

I also still have a jar of pickled beetroot (wot I made by myself) in el frigo. is top-lush.
