Beer is great. And it gets me pissed if i drink the stronger ones :)

You're obviously drinking the wrong stuff, OU.

What's the right stuff? And don't say something like Bishop's Gleet :p

Fresh, well-kept real ale or quality bottled beers and lagers. Real beer is a living product (fermentation and all that, which continues in the barrel and sometimes the bottle) and has a range and depth of taste that preserved stuff doesn't. Most draught beer and many bottled ones are pasteurised and preserved for shelf life rather than taste.

Trouble is, real beer takes a little bit more care to look after than keg (ie, pasteurised, pressurised) booze, so many pubs which don't really know how to look after it keep in on too long and end up with bad tasting beer. The result - people think real ale tastes crap.

Drinking keg beer is like eating TV dinners. Real ale is the equivalent of organic

Haven't drunk lager in a pub for yonks, only really drink bitter when I'm in a pub these days.

Drink wine at home, but never in a pub 'cos that's just wrong. :)

never really drink beer....lager I drink rarely though typically will drink cider....though after discussing the calorific content with my friends last night was told that the number of pints drunk last weekend equalled about the same as fifteen fry ups???

Think I will be moving to vodka...lime and soda...very gay though what the hey;)

I like the occassional guinness and the odd sip of real ale and that's it. lager is so unbelievably vile I'm amazed that anyone drinks it.

lager has become synonymous with nasty keg beer, but is really just a different and quite legitimate beer style. I like some of the bottled lagers - Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, many of the German ones and numerous Czech newcomers that seem to be hitting the shelves, especially the dark ones

I don't find it vile, so much as unbelievably bland. People blather on about different lagers, but I can't tell 'em apart. All the main ones taste precisely the same, and they all taste of nothing, except Bud which is nasty, sweet-tasting, watery piss.

On the other hand, the Co-op in Charlton are doing a rather good offer on Beck's, and since I'm in on my tod tonight I've a few bottles of that to get through. It's drinkable, if unexciting.

If only I knew an offie that sold Badger ales in this part of London. I'd kill for a bottle or two of Golden Glory...

is that that kak that tastes like flowers/peaches? EEEEUCH!

I do like lager but I can't drink enough to get pissed cos I just get bloated and need to wee every 5 mins which is annoying.

It's very refreshing when drunk very chilled in teh summer.

Yup, and it's luuuuuurvely.
It certainly is. A favourite in the Idaho residence. Have you tried the Blandford fly one - the ginger one. Comes in at a hearty 5.6% too.

oh, shit, I forgot fruit beer, I quite like that...

Should have voted for something else, but while we're on the subject:

is fruit beer proper beer?

I'm not so keen on that one. Ginger and ale just don't seem to go together so well. It's perfectly drinkable, but not one of my favourites.

Tbh, though, I don't think I've ever had a Badger beer I've not liked. Even Tanglefoot is scarily drinkable, although after a few it does exactly what it says on the tin!

yes. Beer is essentially fermented grains. In the past 200 years it's becoime conventional to add hops as a flavouring (and preservative) but that was not always so and other things are often used still.

I like the belgian fruit flavoured stuff meself

Not much point in drinking unless you're getting drunk is there? Unless it's something really tasty. Not like beer then.
Really? I generally drink a drink because I like the taste of it... wouldn't just drink something to get pissed.

Not a huge fan of lager, recently discovered that I don't mind ale though :)

Is that like fruli (sp?) that's quite nice, but sickly sweet so couldn't drink too much of it.

Yeah, I had one bottle once. Enjoyed the first half of it.

I don't really know where it's from, how it's made etc but I guess it's like it in the sense of being essentially a fruit-added beer. Vile, sickly stuff IMO

Just seen this thread/poll -- voted Option 1, amazingly :D

Mmmmmmm BEER!!!

I've drank it for 27 years, other alcohol much much more rarely++, but my tastes are discerning as to which sort

++eg was given a bottle of Jim Beam about six years ago. There's still a bit of it left!

Never** did me any harm ... :D

**almost never!

I thought you would have smelled the beer by now. We're just getting going here. been to the Royal Oak lately?

I could drink half a litre of whisky and be reasonably drunk. But 4 pints of beer and I am falling over.
