Been layed off :/

Got a job n' all that :D

Means a massive (25%) paycut, and will mean life is pretty tight for a while, but I've been told it's cool if I'm only there until something better comes along.

Nice to see my boss of 4 years is willing to create a role for me when the company is barely breaking even, even if the cunts I had the misfortune to work 'with' for 10 months don't value me. Speaks volumes to my self-esteem.

Well done, and good for him.

So are you going off sick for this month or not? ;)

We know who you work for and I won't be buying their products again....

Good luck with the new job matey. :)

good news, take a month off on the sick (if they are paying sick pay) at the old job - and enjoy the weather :)

glad to hear it :) bloody hell Chris, what a couple of days you've been through!! xx

as zenie says, i'll be boycotting that lot's bleedin' products. for starters, i'll get off their fan page on facebook!

I want to know who they are too. Bad employment practices and that - indication of how they'll treat their customers.

Sorry to hear that mate when I was made redundant there was enough work for me to do for a year at least..

It feels like it's effecting so many people :(

I've looked into it, and I don't have to work my notice if I don't want to. They have to pay me, whatever happens. So I'm gonna go in tomorrow, and for 3 days next week, then start new job. Double pay for a while, should soften the blow of the pay cut for a little while.

*adds to shitlist*

If you can pull that off, great. I wouldn't trust em to pay you though :hmm:

Are you looking in any particular sectors?

Jobs are there but companies are moving very slowly. I have interest from a few places, but directors are sitting on their arses too worried to do anything.

I was told in the meeting, that I'd get paid whether I worked my notice or not. The deal he was offering was a good reference in return for a month's work.

Ah, I get it. That makes it even worse to my mind. Why shouldn't he give you a good reference anyway. That really stinks.

The more I hear on the subject, the more I think they've pussy footed around naming it constructive dismissal. I haven't seen any paperwork yet, but when I do I'll know for sure.

Contructive dismissal they have to pay me whether I work my notice or not, right?

No, constructive dismissal is when a company's behaviour is such that an employee is effectively forced to resign. I take it that you didn't resign, so not constructive dismissal.

Unfair dismissal from what you've told us, yes. Also, wrongful dismissal if they don't pay your notice and benefits throughout notice period, yes (breach of contract).

Have a ganders at your contract and see if there's a payment in lieu of notice clause in there.

Nice one getting the new job, mate. :) Sounds like you're doing well to be getting away from the last lot to me ...

Ah, getting my terminology wrong!

Ok, so if I've been fired for whatever made up reason, am I legally obliged to work my notice? They suggested I wasn't, and that I'd be paid whatever happened.

It depends on the terms of your contract tbh, that's why I asked about that clause. If you want to email it to me I can have a look if you like?

The reference thing is bollocks. There is limited amount that can go in a reference these days anyway. You can't expect more than, 'he worked here and did that.' I believe the law changed recently. If you can get a good reference from a previous employer don't worry about it. Stuff em.

Glad to hear you got some work...

And from people who value you...:)
