Bedtimes - What time do your children go to bed?

Ny nieces are 8 and 11 and their bedtime is 8, lights out at 8:30. On the weekends, they stay up until they take themselves to bed.

Our son used to think he was hard done by til he saw this thread!!

He is 15 and goes to bed about 10.30-11. When he was younger (11ish) we aimed for 9-9.30, once he was a teen 10-10.30. It all depends on how tired he looks tbh.

Having said that he was out of the living room from 8pm, we needed a break by then when he was younger :o

He also has a TV(3 yrs or so), PS then PS2, video/DVD player(recent), PC(recent) and radio/cd player(for years) in his room. He's spoilt brat really ;) He has listened to R4 for years.

I think that there's alot to be said for making sure kids get adequate sleep. My theory is that many sleep deprived kids, especially under the age of 10 tend to have behavoiur or concentration problems. When I used to help out in my son's reception class I used to ask the kids what time they went to bed, very often they would say "after Heartbeat finishes" or some other tv programme, sometimes they stayed up long after 10 even on a school night. One fell asleep in class once.

I can spot the kids who don't go to bed early enough from working in Primary Schools. Too many are very sleepy during the day, and chatting in the playground about what was they saw on TV last night often revealed those kids as being up really late.

That's no theory, that's a fact! ;)

They start going loopy when they're tired, and wake up in a very bad mood when they don't get enough sleep. (Just like adults ;) )

** shakes fist ** Parents of the world: put those kids to bed! For your own sanity!!!

My kids are foul when they're too tired, and so are hubby and me! They've just got to 14 and 17 and are really sensible about going to bed. During the week they have to get a school bus at 07:30. By the time they've had a meal, watched a bit of television and done their homework they're tired so are usually in bed well before 10:00.

When they were at primary school bedtiime was around 8:00 pm, but they've always got up very early.

We've always reckoned that bedrooms are where they should relax, wind down and sleep and it was only when they moved into year 8 that they started doing their homework in their bedrooms rather than downstairs.
The oldest has got a television in his room now, he bought it with money he'd saved! Youngest is jealous of him, but can have one when she does the same! The computer is downstairs and will stay where I can get at it!!

My two have just turned seven. They go to bed at 7.30 if the next day they have to go to school. If not about 8.30.

The oldest (nearly 18 and 21) go to bed when they please, the youngest (12) goes at 9.30 in the week and around 10.30 at the weekend !

:)

We had early bedtimes (comparatively) but could stay awake reading (not playing, or listening to music) if we wanted. Mum says now that this is because she thought there should be time in the evening for her and dad to be together in a civilised grown up way. My sisters kids stay up til when they like more or less, and it just seems a bit odd. Certainly I'd want primary age kids in bed by nine at the latest - even during the hols. Even if it were just to lay in bed and read.

Great thread!

My 15-month-old goes to bed between 9.30 and 10.30, and nearly always moans about it. We've tried but he can't do any earlier. He does sleep for 11 or 12 hours though, plus a long nap most days.

I can't see why it matters what time they go to bed at that age, as long as they get enough sleep. It's not like they have to get up for school. :D

Just depends whether you prefer your baby-free time in the evening or the morning. :)

I'm a morning person, so I don't mind getting up early with the bubba after she's gone to bed at 6pm, but I must admit I do look forward to her bedtime in the early evening...
