becoming a psychobilly

I wish I could remember the end, tbh. Me and Sturdy Wrists saw him at the end of a bit of a bender of a weeked, on the Sunday night. I hadn't been to bed since the Thursday. By the time the Bastards were on... well, that part of the gig's all a bit of a blur, to be honest. :D

I do remember it being packed with very young seeming Rancid fans, though.

Well if i was even a small fan of rancid i'd go see lars cos i think they will all have copt it in the next 5 years.

When King Kurt played York INLI I was asked to keep the flour and chickens flowing...tried to tell them the birds were still frozen.:o

*Sunspots...have you still got thoses Nuggets' "tapes"...I haven't heard any since the Summer of 86...are they as good as I remember?...would love a CD or three if poss.

Forked out nearly 30 pound last night to see a load of old punk bands in Newcastle, the main reason was Demented Are Go were playing, and it's been a while since they played up here (years ago infront of about 30 people!).

So after finding half the band drinking at the bar, we were told Sparky had just been lifted for pulling the radiator off the wall and flooding the dressing room they were sharing with (the worst band ever) GBH. afaia he spent the night in Newcastle nick.

and just to rub it in, the only other band i was interested in seeing, Angelic Upstarts, had mensi getting a full pint lobbed in his face before he started singing, looked canny nasty, and resulted in them all fucking off.

saw The Legendary Shack Shakers in Newcastle yesterday.

Absolutely fucking phenomenal - one of the most insane, brilliant, energetic live bands I've ever seen. As good as any psychobilly band - won over a crowd of cold, confused Geordies. Can't recommend them enough

no one pic can do that lot justice, mind.

i've just been sent a load of cherry red psychbilly re-issues to review... my opinions so far:

meteors: pretty good
the sharks: shit
mad sin: shit. but a bit funny.
the termites: ace
the frantic flintstones: ok

i've still got 2 compilations, 2 dvds (featuring the frantic flintstones, klingonz, quakes and skitzo), and more albums by the meteors and radiacs to get through...

i think it's a music form which works best live, really... :( ;) :D

I think you should check out the "Back from the Grave" series as well. As the title suggests it contains obscure 60's garage hits with titles like "Jack the Ripper" or "Night of the Phantom".Basically, these folks are responsible for the whole psychobilly phenomenon. There are contemporary bands like the Fuzztones who 've built an entire career upon covers of these obscure gems.
Another great contemporary band in the same vein that springs to mind are the Misfits.

Back From The Grave are garage / psych compilations, not psychobilly at all, although the Cramps kinda crossed over. Not much to do with bands like The Meteors et al

Elvis tribute. ;)

Yeah, I thought Danzig would have looked great in a white sequinned jumpsuit, but apparently they just couldn't deliver it in time, so he went for the Kiss-trying-to-frighten-your-kids look.

:D

I thought the misfits were horrorpunk. Not that pinning bands into genres is ever a good thing to try and do.

Just got back from Tiger Army @ Bristol Bierkeller...

Fucking blinding. Battered from the moshpit and ears ringing! :D

Superb support from The Caravans (really, really good live band), and less so from the Hangmen, who weren't as together as last time.

You can just about make out Nick & Geoff among the sea of bouncing heads...
