Because Sad Songs, Sad Songs Say So Much..

Is that supposed to make me feel better:D

I have also remembered

The Skye Boat song (and I live on Skye!!!):o

aand I used to listen to Leonard Cohen on purpose when I wanted to feel depressed:o

and 'Who Knows Where the Time Goes' by Fairport Convention. Now that IS a heartbreaker.

Mogwai once promised to release a cover of 'The Skye Boat Song' which reminds me of another sad song, which even has the lyric 'sad songs' in it, which is cody by the aforementioned Mogwai. I like that in a sad way an awful lot.

I just like Mogwai anyway:)

Just to complete the circle, the Mogwai EP with the brass band on it is ace too:cool:

I wonder if I can make a tenuous link to every post on this thread with a Mogwai song...

I think I will go to bed instead:)

Orbital - Halcyon and on
William Orbit - El Ninjo
There is a cat stevens track as well but I dont know the name of it...

So many but one that always makes me choke up, especially when watching the video, is I Was Only 19 - Redgum.

A random selection that springs to mind right now:

I see a Darkness - Bonnie Prince Billy

John Wayne Gacey Jr - Sufjan Stevens

Let me In - REM

Simon and Garfunkle - The Boxer

Simple Things - Zero 7

A Wolf among Wolves - Prince Billy again!

Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber

Purple Rain - Prince :o

Great thread.

see also the johnny cash version of desperado and he managed to make that sound incredibly sad and meaningful, whereas the original is just corny. that covers album he did is a good example of the power of a decent singer

Totally agree - Cash was a bloody genius.

Brass bands, Steel bands (but only if they're live and in the open air, especially if they're moving down the street)

I thought I was the only daft bat to cry along with bands like like :o I'm glad to know I'm in good company :D

I havent heard it no. And I have a special place for Dusty cause my mum loved her.

Praps you could bring it to PRoD and play it as the last dance so we can all be off our nuts and weeping into our beer :D

For some reason Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley always makes me want to cry. Dunno why but I love the song a lot.
