Beautiful Girls

Ok, I just found it and had a listen/look.

I may well have heard it before but I have no way of knowing as it is completely unmemorable.

What the hell kind of pop tune is lacking a memorable chorus?? A rubbish one, that's what kind.

:D

It grows on you. It's all memorable chorus, it is just missing verses.

"wasn't all that great"?!?! it was fucking diabolical. her voice makes me want to hurl. fucking whiny cunt. fuck off, prick and never make me hear your stupid muppet voice again.

I think it was quite a good song but her voice didn't really do it justice. It was kind of whiny teenager. However, I think if she's careful her voice will mature with age.

I know I'll never grow to like any of that shite. All that commercial pop R&B shite makes me wanna go deaf everytime I hear it.

I heard a good R&B track once - ner ner ner ner ner :p

No, I'm not talking about the Rolling Stones, silly.

Nice lyrics not at all deep.

I dipute that!!

Listen to the chorus

When the sun shines
We’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath
I'mma stick it out 'till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my Umbrella

You can stand under my Umbrella

It's about love and protection :)
The Chris Brown version's great too

It is about love and protection; the promise and commitment of friendship. That may be a potentially deep subject but it isn't really explored deeply in the lyrics. The lyrics are lovely by the way (and not 'about' an umbrella) but are not imo deep.

i quite like rihanna's new one. at least i think i might do. i've only heard it once - this morning at about 6.15 with the volume very low. her voice didn't sound as annoying aas it usually does, and it had a good little beat to it. "shut up and drive" i think it's called.

the song taht this is actually about, though, just gets worse and worse with every listen. :(

Rihanna's voice was only whiny on unfaithful. She was perfect for SOS, Pon de replay and the wonderful Umbrella. Shut up and drive is already in the top ten, the next single is called Don't stop the music.

Actually, loath as I am to return to the subject of the thread and away from Rihanna, I have to say that Beautiful Girls is growing on me! :)

The bass line is taken from Stand By Me. It has a 50s retro feel and is evocative of 50s musical kitsch. I like it. :D

well not just the bassline, the whole loop. and Stand By Me isn't kitsch. Or 50s.

Nonetheless, it has imo a kitsch 50s feel as well as using the bass line from Stand by Me.

and weirdly that is the era they depict in the video - the one where Sean shows us that things never really change as he cuts from Sean in the present day, smiling at Beautiful Girls, to Sean in the 50s, smiling at Beautiful Girls. Although the ones in the current day wear less and dance ruder because feminism happened in between :)
