Beautiful Days

No we went to Shambala the week before and then spent a week cycling around Dartmoor.

Shambala was too popular for its own good it seems and has been cancelled this year... :(

Still... BDs sounds really good so I'm happy!

Perhaps we could try to arrange a meet up at BDs if others are up for this?
A couple of years ago we did try to organise a football match between New Model Army and Levellers board members - but it turned into a bit of a farce since the two teams met at different beer tents!
Mines a pint of Otter.

Beers from the Otter Brewery RULE!!!

A meeting will definitely happen.

Involving a beer tent, which one will be carefully specified :p and no footie either!! :D

Clarebob, if you're coming to the NMA(ish) gig at the end of May, at the Clapham Grand, Stig and I will be there :)

See other thread about that one, in this Music Forum ...

A belated welcome to the boards BTW Clarebob.

Yeah, I chatted to Stig about this last time I was down in London. Me and Rob M. will definitely be there, and we're going to Kingston Green Fayre the day after, so hopefully catch up with you at some point. CB

none of that makes me go 'wow' but the dhol drummers are

I felt slightly underwhelmed initially I must say. Most of the old timers I've seen before but The Buzzcocks & The Pretenders still put on good shows & I haven't seen Killing Joke since the 80's. Looking forward to seeing 3DM's, Dhol Foundation, Hayseed Dixie & The Crimea again and as always I'm sure there will be a few gems among the unknown names. And if not then hey I'm sure we can find something to do to amuse ourselves! :D

Omigod, Killing Joke, and the Bunnymen.. That's me sorted. :)

In my twenty years of Bunnymen fandom not once have I seen them....

I've seen em about four times and they've been excellent every time :)

Nice lineup, happy!

:)

I saw the Bunnymen at Guilfest last year. They were excellent :)

Great lineup :D

Go for the bands/acts you've never heard of, and there's no doubt you'll get a few very pleasant surprises, it's always the way at festies isn't it?

i dont normally have much time for the music.

i'm scared i might be bored :o

Have to agree with Tort, I thought this was a weaker line up than previous years.
However, of the smaller acts 3 Daft monkeys are great for bouncing around to and Seth Lakeman is well worth catching. I saw the Joke a couple of years ago and they were fantastic - although I know they cancelled some of their recent tour due to 'ill health'.
I guess I'll just have to socialise with people instead!! =;0)

I've never seen Killing Joke or Buzzcocks, and am looking forward them -- to see the Bunnymen again will be excellent also.

I think Steel Pulse were at WOMAD last year, or have I misremembered?

<ETA> Yes I have, they weren't there, it was another veteran UK reggae band, which means I'll be seeing Steel Pulse for the first time ... </ETA>

Hayseed Dixie are at Endorse It In Dorset the week before, but they're excellent anyway so twice in a week is no problem ...

Really it's the smaller/not known acts I'm looking forward to most really ... of those, I saw subgiant two years ago at Kingston Green Fair, they're pretty good. Most of the others are unknowns ...

I also expect more acts to be added .... 'More acts TBA' sez the BD website ..

Bizarrely, despite living down the road from Brixton, I've never seen the Larry Love Showband ... I once just missed seeing them at the Albert ...

As I think recall from a Cambridge Folk Fest a few years back, Lunasa are a great (and really fast) Russian (?) gypsy-folk-klezmer type band, should get everyone dancing ... :)

Cara Dillon has a wonderful voice, lovely Irish singer.

And whoever the fuck The Fabulous Good Time Party Boys Medicine Show Sunday Morning Prayer Meeting Revue are, they sound as if they're a must-see on curioisty value alone!!!

In the Dance tent, that Clash tour DJ, Pama International and Dib Dub should definitely be worth investigating

did i see them at glasto last year?

letters to america and all that?

once in a lifetime was enough.

(or is that not them)

acid priest said:
I always thought they were alright actually - 'Letter From America' and '500 Miles' were tunes.

Agreed. They're alright for a drunken singalong. William Grafitti'd "FUCK THE PROCLAIMERS" on the back of their tour bus a couple of years ago, which I thought was a tad harsh. ;)

I was drunk at the time ... ;)

Nah, you can't pin that one on me, officer. I didn't have any backstage access that year ... ;)

Feed me enough beer and i might be persuaded to sing along to those, if halfheartedly ...

But I find the Proclaimers a little on the boring side as I said ... :(

It is them, and I think they were at Glasto in 2005, but I stayed well away from whatever stage it was ...!
