Bear Grylls' wild adventure with Barack Obama

obama or his team are good with the media stunts. On american mothers day (different day to ours) there was a vid of him in the oval office using the big phone to ring up various american mothers and big them up etc.
Should have been rolleyes but I was for a minute thinking 'what a gent'.

It's not just reality TV, it's half of the rest of American TV, almost as if it's aimed at 5 year olds

As per post #19 the vast majority of US TV is really a stream of adverts, punctuated by short breaks for 'programs'. Unless it's PBS in which case the programs interrupt pledge drives instead.

Yep. I saw that and had the same reaction. He has that about him, even when you know what he does and what he stands for. When he led a funeral for a victim of a racist shooting in Abide with Me, that should have been rolleyes too. But he managed to both do that and appear humble.

I watched that.Apparently there were fifty secret service bods there including snipers. If you notice when he went to get a piece of slate to cook the meal on he went behind a rock and picked it up,pre installed much? Interesting but crap I almost threw up when Bear prayed with Obama.

E2a: just remembered about the not being able to have a cell phone to easy to track where he is,something Merkel should think about.

I worked as set security/building liason on a reality tv show. One scene there were three people on camera in a darkened museum trying to smuggle in a painting done by the star. There were 50 people just outside range adjusting sound equipment, playing with lighting, and eating donuts and coffee. Having loads of people just outside shot range is typical. There is no "reality" in reality tv.

Apart from the last 15 mins or so in that Top Gear Argentina trip, where the crew got hassled by angry locals. Now, if only every Top Gear had been like that...

not 'where's the gents?'

Yeah, almost as bad as NPR which somehow manages to be even more bourgeois than Radio 4

Sadly both NPR and PBS are being captured by conservative business interests. If you look closely a lot of their funding is coming from the Koch brothers and people of similar ilk. At first I didn't think it was effecting their programming, but they've started giving "equal time" to views that are completely bonkers. In another 10 years it'll be just another Fox News lite.

I watched it, and although it was a bit lame in what they actually did, fair game to trying to do it, and specifically to try and make a point about climate change.

Fuck bear grylls though, they should have abandoned him in nothing but a loin cloth for 30 days on an island with ed stafford.

It's a pity he's not the President of the USA or anything. If he was he might be able to actually do something about climate change.

You know, like actually earn that fucking nobel peace prize they gave him

Tbf he cant even stop nutters and terrorists legally buying semi automatic rifles in his own country :rolleyes: even tony managed that. Saving the world not so much :(

Pretty heavily scripted stuff.

Also Bear is a knob as usual. Abseiling at the start for no reason, then carrying the rope across his body the whole time.
